Started looking at the feasibility and cost of visiting EICMA later this year. I’ve never been to Milan but after my experiences in Florence, I’ll not be doing any driving. My experience of Italian public transport is much better so it’s train or bus from the airport and local train to the exhibition halls. Which airport ? Do I trade off more flights and transfers of about an hour flying in to Malpensa or one flight a day and less than 30 minutes transfer by bus flying in to Linate ? Given the ongoing issues with the EES, a less busy airport sounds like the less frustrating option. In Milan, I see the rail route to the exhibition is the M1 which gives an area around the central station and Porta Garibaldi to find accommodation. Does that sound a reasonable premise ? Andy
Oops. Been having issues with the forum server and Safari for a while. That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it Thank you Viv for sorting it out. Andy x
Thank you. I had looked at Bergamo but currently, there are no weekday flights from Gatwick which is my preferred UK departure point. Didn’t know it was my GOAT’s home town, maybe another time Andy
They also have a cracking classic road race around the old high city. I missed it but on the day I left I saw them all coming down the main street. Amazing.
we flew into malpensa, the other one was ag, and it was about 45mins to the centre of milan, from what i can remember it was very very cheap their underground is great, can get any where, you have to walk about a mile from the train to the exhibition because the site is so big, its impressive, they do bike stunts and motocross outside, just an absolutely huge venue
Get a flight to Linate then the train to Stazione Centrale and then the M1 line to "Rho Fiero Milano" station. Fast and cheap way straight to the exhibition centre. Done it many times myself.
Last December flew in and out of Linate, biometric machines seemed to not process 90% with a message showing go to kiosk. There were only 2 booths open so que was maybe 20-30 mins to get through.
