Iphones Are Rubbish

  1. I'm guessing you've messed around with it so much all the settings are out of kilter now, best bet is to go to an iStore and get them to reset it and talk you through how to use it properly.

  2. Do you have roaming switched on (on the phone) and active (with your provider)? Sounds like your data issues are only a problem when away from wifi.

  3. Yes, roaming is on. Not that it makes any difference to the flavour. Either way, NOTHING works.

  4. I did a reset to get pictures to show properly. If there is some secret setting that prevents pictures being uploaded without Wi-fi, then I am screwed. Doesn't matter now as it's not a given that it will make it home. But I need the number, so yes it will. Definitely, it will never ever leave the UK again. It's not even a given that it will ever leave my house,

  5. I agree you certainly can "Jail Break" an iphone. But people don't seem to feel the need anymore. Looking back six plus years there were regular mentions on social media, top tips on doing it, and frequent discussion making it a common topic. Not anymore.

I think the products have changed, and many peoples attitudes too. My Google apps run really well on my Apple hardware, & seamlessly alongside iOS/ iPadOS and presumably macOS.

But you're right, à chacun son goût!

  6. I jailbroke an Android phone years ago. I cannot remember why. The only thing that I can think of, is setting the phone free from being tied to a particular network provider. I think that phones are released after two years anyway. On my iPhone, or Android ones, there's nothing to bother me, so no reason to break out of jail.

  7. Perry I was in Santander last year and my iphone was perfectly fine, as was my Apple carplay & ipad. They were all fine throughout four countries, for an eight week period. So yours should be as well!

Perhaps you are in an area of crap Wifi? Could you have accidentally adjusted a setting?

This is a vid to rest your network settings, without resetting your iphone. Perhaps it may help?

  9. Looks like there's a lot of it about

  10. I did that. I had to reconnect to the hotel WiFi so it certainly did something, but I don't know if it has helped. The only thing that I noticed is that data roaming is now OFF. It's connected to Orange now (that was the weakest signal) but I give no shits, it's sorted. I won't know until I venture out.

  11. Outside of hotel WiFi nothing changed, although I could call my other phone in England. I get no data, whatever network I choose. Doesn't make any difference whatever the setting. So after this farce, the phone never leaves the country.

If data doesn't work without WiFi in England, that is it. I'll go back to a physical SIM. Although I can use the physical SIM with an eSIM on my Android phone, I will have options. The result of which, there will be no ESIM for the iPhone, rendering it useless. No loss there.

  12. If you have data roaming switched off you won’t have internet unless you are connected to 4g / 5g on your network provider.
With data roaming on it will use another provider to give you internet.
(You could get charged extra for that)

  13. My money is on “ nowt wrong with the phone” :joy::joy::joy:

  14. I am back to Movistar on 5g. Makes no difference, without hotel WiFi, I am struck dumb, Never in my life have I had this. What’s the only difference? This time (unlike a couple of months back) I have an iPhone!

  15. I honestly don’t know why I’m bothering but @PerryL you do have Mobile Data turned on don’t you?
Click the Settings App icon - the grey cogs to give you this screen

Select Mobile Service and check Mobile Data is enabled.

As for your photos. When uploading them here, after selecting the photo AND BEFORE touching the big blue tick in the top RH corner, touch the 3 dots in the bottom LH corner, touch the last option which is labelled Options and then choose a file size. Medium works well.

When you’re attaching a photo to an email, assuming you’re using Apple Mail on your iPhone you are asked what file size you want to attach, ie a series of options to choose from, before the mail is sent, it will then resize the photo automatically.

And before you retort - “Apple mail is shit” - you can use Apple Mail to access and sync with your Gmail account, (or yahoo or hotmsil or proton or whatever mail server you use. Apple Mail on your phone is just an app that provides the GUI to your mail server of choice. If you are accessing your email server via a web interface I have no knowledge of how you would resize a file for transmission without researching it.

  16. I think the difference is you have mobile data roaming switched off.
That means when you are not connected to your mobile provider (like if you are in another country) it will connect to another provider but won’t allow internet. Calls and texts only.
If you switch data roaming on you will have internet, but may get charged extra.

the idea is you switch it off of you want to avoid ‘roaming’ charges.

  17. I reckon that it is/was loads of things- too many things for any rational person. The outstanding thing now, that I cannot, or cannot be bothered with, is DATA.

Either O2 have decided not to share, or the Spanish don’t want to give. I will not know until I return. I suspect O2 are at play.

  18. You have decided not to use the internet without wifi by turning data roaming off.

  19. It goes on and off! Some operators say turn it off whilst others say turn on. Never makes any difference, whether on or off. I think that it’s because my data allowance is not being shared or has run out and O2 are being difficult over giving me more.

  20. How much data do you have
