So what have you done today..?

  1. Moh’s is good, very good. I had the one removed from the bridge of my nose and another from the side. When they showed me the wounds after the surgery I looked like The Elephant man. To say I was quite shocked would be an understatement. I thought no one would look at me in the face ever again. They’d scooped bloody great holes out of me. They kept digging until they thought they’d got it all out.

With the Moh’s procedure, which basically keeps the wound wet allowing the skin to grow from the outside edge to the centre, it all grew back fine.

Get your other half to dress the wound daily rather than going back to hospital every day.

Absolutely definitely recommend it. Call me if you want to talk about it.

  2. Today I was a bit tired and struggled to apply myself. Reason being I’ve just flown back to England to see an old friend who’s been diagnosed with not one but two brain tumours. She could check out any time so you never know. Now back in Spain but certainly worth the effort.

It pissed it down all day Thursday so I was glad to get the silver bird out of there…and the misery on the news! Ffs.

The sum total of today’s efforts was to collect and install my new Spanish number plates on the Multi V4 but could I get the 55mm nut off the rear. Not with a 1m breaker bar and not with an air driven impact driver.

When I get up I’m going in search of a 2m scaffold pole, or longer. That usually does the trick.

  5. I lost a friend to a brain tumour 18 months ago, so you have my sympathy.

Why do you need a scaffold pole in order to change your numberplate? Mine are attached with a couple of little yellow plastic bolts that you could probably cut through with a butter knife.

  6. The amount of margin they take is quite extraordinary. I had a stage 0 melanoma removed from my forearm a couple of years ago; it was only the size of a sixpence but they cut 70mm x 30mm right down to the membrane covering the bones and its left a dent in my arm. Skin cancers are wicked conditions and very few of us took precautions when we were kids.

  9. When you use half an Akro prop (about 2m) with a 1m breaker bar down the middle and the 55mm socket attached, the leverage wins. God knows what they torque the rear wheel nut up to in the factory but it’s substantially more than the number plate screws.

I’ve now re-torqued it to 230N and on Monday I’ll be able to whip the wheels off for new tyre fitting.

I did indeed remove the number plate screws and re-seat the bracket, resulting in the number plate sitting square as it should, which satisfied my ocd. No torque wrench required.

I rolled the bars forward a fraction, counter rotated the brake, clutch & mirrors so when I have my fingers extended to use said levers it creates a straight line down my arm. Comfy. Also allowing me to lean forwards more when riding, which I like.

Installed Grip Puppies with the aid of the wife’s hair spray. ( Who the hell thought of that genius trick). Also put some fancy Ducati Performance brake and clutch pot caps on. All of which I found in a drawer, don’t even remember buying them.

Sat nav bracket went on and a Carpuride screen. I used a Quad Lock but I’m already thinking I should have mounted it more permanently. It’ll be a pain getting it on and off every time. Need to solder up the power supply to the appropriate plug today.

Topped up the oil, need to check the chain tension again and test fit the panniers and once the new tyres are on I should be good to go to the European Multistrada Meeting in the Massif Central, France. Yehaaa, here we go!

That is once I’ve paid my penance and got through the list of jobs supplied by the lady who very helpfully stood on the brake pedal for me.

  10. Watched my wife finish her 100 mile run and now at my campsite for the night. Satnav took me past Caffine and machine on the a272 (I think that’s the road number) so I’m going to have a nasty surprise in the post I think as my bikes has a race can and I didn’t see the average speed cameras until the crossroads.

  17. Did you enroll on the IAM website site or have you joined an IAM affiliated rider group ? Andy

  18. Hi Andy, I signed up on the IAM website but affiliated myself to the West Sussex group

  19. I met a guy at Billys motorcycles on Saturday who was on the course and thought it was a great thing to do. As a returning motorcyclist I am now very cautious but felt some training and guidance could help me get the balance right between being ultra cautious and proficient riding.

  20. Any structured additional training whether IAM or RoSPA or a professional outfit like Rapid training is, IMO, a good thing to do. I find the IAM website clunky and your downloadable membership card will be in a different place to all the other stuff. I hope you enjoy the process and hope your observer guides through it as something that is flexible and not as a mantra to be followed blindly. For the record, I am an accredited IAM RS National Observer and have learnt over time, every observer has their own way of mentoring :D If I can be of any help, please feel free to PM me. Andy
