Scorpions are a hassle in Mex though Hemorrhagic dengue (potentially fatal within 2 days) is worse. Salties can be 20ft long in OZ, bigger than their cousins the freshies... But bed bugs once they get into your bike gear and are noshing on your head, hands, nuts and feet will drive you crazy...
One night, sleeping half outside the sleeping bag - in the tent in Spain. Something ran across my bare back, woke me up startled - it was a flippin spider, long legs. I know this because I evicted it from the tent at about 2 in the morning ! It ran across my back while I was asleep - mad.
Camping in the French Alps, chose a remote part of the campsite quite close to the river - by the way they do not switch rivers off at night, they carry on making all that running river water noise all night - yes they do Anyway, happy with my remote location away from everyone else. Watching the TV in the caf with the local news on - some local sheep farmer was very unhappy because during the night some wolves attacked and ate his sheep - they have got hungry wolves in this area that are out at night attacking and eating things. That night walked back to my tent in the dark, well away from everyone else, and thought maybe this is not a good idea.
Had one of those for years, was a really good tent considering what it cost. A 6.5M boat is a huge camping trailer for the journey there and back. Electric hook-up, proper lighting, full size fridge, heating, etc: Now of course if it's not just me away on the bike camping we have this, which is real luxury for the two of us and the dog.
