Evotech/quadlock/carpuride

  1. Does anyone have anything Quadlock hanging around that I might be able to adapt?

  2. I’ll get a pic of what’s on the bike see if it’s any good to you.

  3. Here’s what I have if it’s any good to you IMG_5032.jpeg f IMG_5031.jpeg IMG_5030.jpeg

  5. @Davyd hi.

    Apologies, I've just seen this.
Having investigated more I really do need that half of the Quadlock in the form that attaches to the Evotech bracket.

  6. I’m confused Nasher sorry. do you need any of the bits I posted. I’ll be binning them if you don’t need anything.

  7. @Davyd hi.
Sorry, bouncing from one plan to another with this.
I'm happy to pay you something for it and obviously cover postage.
Message me what you'd like plus some payment details.

  8. Posted. Foc as I’m just returning the favour

  9. Thanks @Davyd, really appreciate your help.

Thanks to Davyd I now have everything I need apart from the unique Carpuride connection:

Annoyingly Evotech are showing these out of stock both as an individual item and also when attached to other bike or generic Quadlock parts.
There are a few distributors on EBAY saying they have them, but having spoken to a couple they admit they don't have them on the shelf but either have them drop shipped from Evotech or order them in.
When I explain that I've also spoken to Evotech and they assure me they don't have any, the answer is we'll get one to you ASAP.
Evotech told me they don't know when they are getting any more.

So I'm looking on EBAY etc trying to find a used one, or am going to have to bodge something together.
It's a bit of a complicated thing to cut on my little manual milling machine, but if really necessary I'll have a go.

  10. That’s going to be difficult to make because it has a groove for the Quadlock wings to fit into. You might be better off screw mounting it until you can get the item from Evotech.

I’ve got exactly the setup Carpuride/ Evotech/Quadlock. Works well but don’t try the rubber mount thing, it wobbles all over the place with something as big as a Carpuride. Probably fine to carry a phone.

  11. Yep, it's the undercut that bothers me if trying to machine it.

I dropped into Halfords yesterday and picked up a generic adhesive backed Quadlock socket which is desiged to be stuck onto the back of a phone case.
I wouldn't rely on the adhesive, but I'll try and do something with it temporarily.

  12. I've used these quadlock sockets in the past, I found that foam double sided tape (about 1mm thick) used for car badges worked well, I never had my phone come off it in lots of motorcycle use.

  13. Today I sorted out the mechanical mounting on the bike, attaching it to the Evotech mount in place of the current TomTom adaptor.

The stem for the standard mount looks like this:

So I made up an adaptor plate to fit the stick-on Quad-Lock socket which I beefed up with a couple of M4 Nuts and Bolts.
Unfortunately I had to remove most of the original stem, but then simply used longer Countersunk screws in place of the original mounting screws:

I then took the TomTom adaptor apart to get the Evotech Pivot Block which I could bolt direct to the Quad-Lock Mount:

    And there it is.
It sits closer into the bracket than the TomTom, so I'm hoping it vibrates less.
But I think I'll flip the Pivot block over which should drop it down an inch or so.
I could drop it a bit more if I want by making another plate with an offset, but it's already lower than the TomTom:

I've got the correct Electrical connector now to fit the standard MS SatNav power supply, but ran out of time to finish off.

  14. That’s a good adapt, well done.

  15. Looks like a neat alternative.

Did you retain the original Carpuride block that is held into the back of the unit with the four screws behind your new Quadlock adapter? From my swap to the Evotec block I noted that this metal block appears to act as a heatsink for the Carpuride CPU. From my memory both the original block and the Evotec one connect with a heat conductive pad. If your setup removes this then the unit may overheat.

  16. Hi Bumpkin.
Yes, but I had to cut the post off it that normally has the ball mounted on the end, which has annoyed me because it means I can't now sell the unit on as standard if I don't get on with it.
Like you say it does appear that the standard mount is a heat sink for the processor.
I assume the Evotech mount, if it ever becomes available again, is machined Ali not a plastic molding.

  17. Yes, machined aluminium. Like all Evotec parts it's good quality and well designed. Would still be running my Carpuride with the setup you intended, including this Quadlock block, if it weren't for the phone overheating in tank bag issue I encountered.

  18. I just had the same phone overheating problem in France and Spain. However I’m told if I upgrade the phone from a 12 pro to the latest model it solves the problem. Apparently.

  19. From what I've read Apple phones cope with this better than Android, Samsung S22 in my case. Worked in the UK but got hot. European summer weather and it was shutting down due to the heat. Contained in a tank-bag isn't an ideal environment. I did contemplate some sort of phone cooling system but this would have involved further complexity and taken up more room or required a bigger tank bag... Reverted to just using the phone, simple was better.
