Dropped My Bike! Argggh!

  1. Yep, I remember picking up my brand new 999R back in the day. The sales guy couldn’t stress enough about how many people drop it on the cobbles outside the shop…

  2. And…….. ?

    I can’t bear the suspense….. :worried:

  3. That’s it. I rode off on it. And eventually sent it down the road at Cadwell…

  7. Well what a result. After seeing the price of a replacement OEM winglet from Ducati (just over £500 for ONE winglet) I spent a good few hours trawling the net and found an immaculate OEM one up for sale in Australia. Even negotiated a discount! Should be here in a week. £220 quid all in. Still a lot for what it is, but I did not want to risk buying one of the plethora of Chinese knock offs on Fleabay which are of questionable quality. As for the brake lever that is a Brembo MCS vented 19-21 lever and pretty much impossible to find online, so I am probably going to have to bite the bullet and order one from the local dealer. Having now had a chance to pour over the bike in detail, there is literally NO other damage save for a tiny scratch on the carbon clutch cover so that will go back to the paint shop to be re clear-coated along wiith the replacement winglet, then once all three parts are fitted, the bike should no longer bare any evidence of my mishap, which is my main objective. Honestly after wrestling to get both mine and my wifes bike to fit into the back of a VW Transporter with 5cm to spare, driving all the way down to WDW2026, riding it around the Misano circuit and throughout the local area for three days, then loading it back into the van and back home again with zero issues, I had to go and drop it at a meet, literally 20 mins from home. C'est la vie!

  9. I dropped mine in the car park at Donington BSB. fortunately the bikes parked next to me had gone so there was no domino effect. The pannier took the brunt of the impact so like you I was lucky

  10. So I ordered the new lever today from Ducati. It looks as if it comes with the 19-21 ratio adjuster wheel as part of the assembly, so no need to fiddle around trying to remove the old one from the bent lever. I will have to detach the remote adjuster though, and I believe there is a grub screw or pin that needs removng first to release it from the lever. Should be a fairly easy swap. Winglet will be here in a week or so and clear coating is already booked in for it and the clutch cover, then the bike will be back to "normal" once all the parts are refitted. I am also going to take the opportunity to ceramic coat the wheels as well, as though they too are clear coated, it will help stave off and brake dust and/or general road grime after each use. Might also change out the Termi silencers for the titanium race ones, unless they prove to be obnoxiuosly loud. I cleaned the chain and treated it to it's regular dose of Profi Dry Lube (as that's the only brand I've tried that actually does the job without leaving a mess all over the bike when ridden).

  11. It's up north. Everywhere is cobbled :)

  12. @Topolino where did you get the PDL from please? Amazon et el out of stocko_O

  13. Most frustrating 'drop' for me was when I'd cleaned and polished the 900ss and left it gleaming in the sun...was during the period I was fully amorous with the new to me bike...went indoors and heard a crash from the driveway. Came out to find the ~20mm shaft that the end of the side-stand fits onto had sheared off. There was a nice big air bubble running through the centre of the alloy casting...
Mirror and fairings needed paint and the clutch lever snapped off too...:sob:

  14. PDL?
