Chinese bling

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by funkyrimpler, Oct 21, 2013.

  1. Has anyone noticed the preponderance of Chinese motorcycle stuff on fleabay..all blingy items such as clutch covers, levers etc..some of it is very cheap, but appears to be identical (from the ebay pics at least) to other items in europe coasting significantly more.
has anyone purchased any of these items and if so, were they any good?
    Thanks

  2. Not really new - I remember bling and buy sales in the 1960's

  3. sweet jesus christ....please take me...

  4. Had a few clutch covers and fork protectors, noprobs.
The lever debate has been done and done...

  5. OMG. you cannot get away with that.
A 6 month ban at least

Some of the blingy levers seem to be ok from what i have read but no personal experience. What isn't new is the far east copying our designs only cheaper, but the quality is getting better. I have a bit of Chinese made Carbon on my 848 and to be honest it is holding up better than the uk stuff i also have.

  6. I have chinky levers, rearsets and a wavey rear disc. No grumbles here, although I would draw the line a Blembo discs or Blembo master cylinders.

  7. Your probably typing into something made in china anyway. Your keks will probably be chinese. Unless your going commando. Respect.

  8. oh yeah, im using an iMac..they used to made in the USA and Ireland, but now theyre made in legalised labour camps in china..seriously...apple had to install nets into the onsite accomodation to prevent suicide jumpers..(because workers have to share a flat like battery hens when theyre working 18 hour days)

anyway, if this chinese anodised tat is okay, i might get some.

Ive got CRG levers on my 916 and they cost the earth...the chinese knock offs are about £50 a pair...they look absolutely identical...has anyone used them on here? i was thinking about whoring up the Tric at some point...

  9. I had some chinese levers in the past... other than the fact that anodising faded on one of them after a while they were perfectly fine.
As said above - the quality of the knock-offs is improving... hardly a surprise as its all probably coming from the same factory anyway ;)

  10. Another one for levers!!!, actually pretty good and have lasted well and a lot cheaper than some others I have bought in the past.

  11. Yep levers here, had them 2 years with no problems, good quality, good fit and quality finish.

  12. I think you would be better off funky biting the bullet and buying brembo radial brake and clutch master cylinders. You can always swap em over to any new bike you buy in the future too.

Not cheap but a great mod for any nice ducati.

  13. You mean to say you can improve the braking on an 1198? I'd have to put velcro on my seat to stop me flying off. These OEM brakes are the most awesome stoppers since Grobby did the crazy legs.

  14. I have brought some levers clutch, covers etc and and they quality is really good, surpringly wouldn't buy disc and major items

  16. I have a 19x20 on my bike - brake on, balls mashed.....Again!

  17. I've bought a fair bit of chinese kit over the last few years, and for the most part it's cheap and cheerful rather than cheap and nasty. Bought a set of chazzos for the fuglystrada for £25 and they were bloody ace, the anodising was still unmarked when I sold the bike nearly 2 years later, carbon clutch cover likewise. But I also bought some footrests that adjust round a cam, and they were shite.

  18. To be quite honest you get some fairly decent products given the price. I bought some cheap Chinese levers which delivered came in under £20. How on earth they made a profit from these I have no idea. When they arrived I was sceptical on what I actually had bought knowing that £20 does not get you that much these days!!! Upon arrival I was gobsmacked the packaging was good and the product was even better than I thought. I scrutinised taking them apart and weighing them to see the difference between stock items, inspected the Chinese stainless steel bolts and was still impressed!!
I then began to wonder what my levers where actually worth, I mean they look pretty cheap and the fittings were no better than the versions I just bought.
Yes I hear you say.... never trust a cheap Chinese lever, but hold on there must be loads of cheap Chinese motorcycles even thousands on our roads and you never hear of lever failure, even VOSA has no recorded accidents in these fields, and there sure is no recalls regarding failures of said Chinese bikes. So when you buy yourself a cheap scooter/ Japanese cheap bike do you really worry that the levers might fail?

I leave you with this thought..................... next time you are driving a cheap European /Korean vehicle think twice about what the brake pedal material is made of when you have your children in the car.

  19. + for levers, I have them on my R1 and Fireblade too and they both are as well made as Titax ones on my old Ducati.
The only difference is that on OEM and my Titax, these have a brass insert for the mounting bolt so this could wear on the bargain jobbies but I doubt there is enough movement to cause them to wear too much.

  20. It's just sour grapes from people who've been mugged into paying hundreds for their levers. And it's been done to death.
