rebound question

  1. I get what rebound does but can never remember: does adding 'hard' i.e. + to the setting speed up rate of return or slow it.
     
  2. Adding rebound damping (making it harder), slows the return!
     
  3. great thanks. Just need to imprint that on my mind now! Shame I cant come up with a righty-tighty, lefty-loosey type thing :rolleyes:
     
  4. Also slows the damping rate too, as the two work in harmony.
     
  5. At the start of every spring, I have to take a few minutes to work it out in my head!
     
  6. its at the track, when you are trying to get balance then tune from there. I guess I could have firm meaning slow all round; hard comp means more force to compress so kind of slower, hard rebound equals slower back...make sense?!
     
  7. Cold oil and old oil are a common factor here also. Suspension should be adjusted when the oil is operating temperature.
     
  8. theres a good series of vids on youtube about set up, incl explaining tyre wear, and how the guy sets up racers on very different settings first thing than he does by early afternoon. I have them linked somewhere...just he never explains 'hard' mans slow return on rebound! Just says 'add more rebound'
     
  9. if it feels like a jackhammer, back off the rebound is my motto and if it gets a bit divey i give it more compression. Not sure if this is actually true or not. But it seems to work for me.
     
  10. Remember that heavier riders will need less rebound, your weight doing part of the rebound work naturally. Not that I'm saying you're 'big-boned' of course...

  15. less rebound meaning 'softer' so returns faster, right?

    I had my track bike set up but tbh wasnt impressed. Although my tyres are super clean with ony minor cold tear, so seems to be working ok but its an art and my race bikes to date I havent bothered adjusting have had them built professionally. But I need ot learn this stuff if I'm racing porper next year
     
  16. The common theory is to make small changes, but I prefer to make big changes, one at a time, so you can clearly feel what each component does and how it alters the bike's characteristics.
     
  17. its things like 'runs wide..wont turn' type stuff that I need to work up. Sure the guys I'll be racing with know their stuff but be good to get ahead.
     
  18. You need less rear rebound.
     
  19. yeah I have that linked and use it a fair bit, gives so good advice to try and resolve issues. Didn't spot the 'harder means slows return' tho lol

    Also its all linked; too much preload on the front can push you wide, so its small stuff here and there
