Random cut out, no not the usual!

  1. My bike has developed an annoying fault in the last few weeks.
I'd be bumbling along, usually accelerating, and the bike will simply lose all power!
I'll roll off the throttle, gently re-twist and I'm away again....Very alarming when overtaking or on the outside lane of a duel carriageway!
Doesn't do it all the time, but undermines once confidence!

    I've addressed the usual suspects.
    New plugs
    Swapped regs
    Fuel filter
    Pump relay
    Injector relay
Went out this evening with a different tank and pump - still did it!

    Any ideas?

    cheers

  2. all I can think of is a bad connection somewhere? But where? sorry I can't be more help.

  3. when it loses all power is it a slow, strangulation or is it as though ignition has been turned off? would only add tank breather circuit to checks if it's the former - will be worse on a full tank than a nearly empty one if this is the case.

  4. Sudden cut off - like the off switch has just been hit!

  5. Had exactly the same on my bike. Riding along, and it feels like kill switch has been flicked off, then seconds later, it all comes back as normal.

Faulty side stand switch. You can try bypassing the switch and go for a test ride.

New switch fitted and mine is all ok.

  6. No switch

  7. Ok, but, I'd still be looking at anything that acts as safety cut out. Clutch micro switch, neutral switch etc

  8. That's a coincidence. I've recently bought a 749R and have only done about 300 miles so far. Went for a 60 mile run today and experienced the same problem as I accelerated to overtake a car.As though i'd hit the kill switch but only for a fraction of a second.
It was fine after that but as you say, quite disconcerting. Sorry can't be of any help but a problem shared........etc
I was hoping it was just a one off but will have to see.

  9. Mine did it again this morning, this time accompanied by some backfiring!

  10. Oh the joys of having a Duc ehhhh :upyeah:

  11. Thought I'd update his thread.
You may remember me from threads such as "Getting a 1098 the hard way!"
After almost completely gutting this bike, adding new loom, ecu, coils, ignition barrel, controls, dash and on and on and on....The bloody thing still randomly cut out! It was as if the off switch had been suddenly hit off then back on again!

    Well, I reckon I have sussed it...Balls crossed...!:upyeah:

Any guesses...? First correct answer wins a fecked BT016 to swing from in the garden or give to the kids as a Christmas pressie, no stick supplied. Winners pays P&P.

  12. dry joint on ignition barrel connection.

  13. Nope, that's all been replaced.

  14. had a vehicle in once the owner was a mechanic, he tryd every thing to get a spark, all the usual stuff including ripping out engine loom and renewing timing chain due to it possibly being out of phase. after checking it out turnd out to be a damaged fuse to ciols in all fairness it looked ok put a multimeter across it battery voltage one side 3v other side. fella had beenh checking for voltage at coils with wire disconnected.

  15. That quickshift thing you found?

  16. Nope - it was happen before the refit and again after!

  17. Intermittent fuel relay problem?

  18. Nope - all relays were changed.

  19. is it cause you are cack handed and kept hitting the kill switch
