I've been offered a red 748 I'm pretty sure it's a BP, it's a South African import which came over about 4 years ago and I'm not sure what year it is as yet but it's been stored inside and has only done 768km from new so it's very close to brand new condition and definitely 100% original, I know the owner and he's a bit of a bike collector with over 40 different machines, some of them quite unusual but he's having a bit of clear out and has offered me the 748. I might get a snap of it next week to show you what it looks like. Any ideas on it's actual value? Obviously it's going to need a bit of looking at to recommission but I'm quite capable of doing that.
If it's as nice and original as you say then it has to be about 4K at least I would imagine, that's if he's doing you a favour! How long is a piece of string and what's it worth to you? Lucky bugger
mint condition and such low mileage - I would expect around £4k , but then I'll probably get shot down now, so I'm off for my tin hat
WOW, but it as you say will need a good coat of looking at. Dealer for me to have it/a tip top service and documented. Price must be around anything from £2.5K to £4 thousand Max if it is a bip. Taking into account the work required. My opinion only. regards Ken.
2.5 to 3k. Needs full service, all fluids changed, tyres, fork seals will be suspect (dried out). It all depends on how it has been stood. Has it been left with fuel in the system? have the injectors gummed up? Get if for a low cost as possible. Its a BIP, so not a rare bike. Keep you eyes wide open.
Unless its been serviced recently, then i reckon it will cost the best part of £1k to get it roadworthy again and you should take that into account. Sounds mintier than a polo though.
If it is an E model I would consider it's worth a little less, they were very basic entry level bikes and from my point of view I would never consider £4,000. An earlier model though might be a different story if it is very original and it has later electrics and brakes. Factor in what it costs to get it back in full roadworthty condition as it could be a costly buy after all the work is completed. A basic 748 is never going to be worth as much long term as a rarer 748 like an SP, SPS or R. As soon as the miles go on it then the value will come down a lot quicker. Just my thoughts.
Quite a lot and more than I could write quickly. I have an SPS and an R and they are way different than a stock bike. Basically better performance with higher lift cams and in some cases Pankl Titanium rods, resulting in a much higher revving engine, bigger injectors and basic slipper clutch on the R and quality items like Ohlins shocks, monoposto seating with lightened alloy subframe and "race" slip on Termignoni's on models like the SP and SPS. On the SPS you get a matching cover, the Termignoni's and stock pipes and also a matching stand as part of the original package. An SPS cost £12250 way back in 1999 Hence the base models are less sought after as they are not so lively and don't have any greatly desirable extras, also £4,000 is taking you into 998 territory
Are you going to garage it and not use it. If so why bother getting it serviced. Are you going to use it and enjoy it. If so the ultra low mileage will soon be meaningless.
