i always wanted a Cagiva 900I.E. Lucky strike Dakar Edition So why not build one? say : starting from a ST4S engine squeeze it a bit, simple reliable electronics, room for navigational stuff.. big 30L tank, WP desert suspension, 19 to 21 inch wheels, minimalistically light yet capable of carrying some serious luggage.. .... same colors - call it the MTS LS.... ... any suggestions or thoughts anyone...?
I've got a Lucky Explorer, I love it! Here's mine. and the works bike. View attachment 22869 Look out for a Scottish guy called Gavin, who has put lots of motors into Elefants. He has an 888 version, and also put a 999R motor in one!! Here's a good discussion site https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/elefantadventurebikes There's also a very good Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/6449379646/
This could be you! View attachment 22876 and here's a nicely modified version, complete with rear tanks. View attachment 22877
You do realise the stock tank already takes 25 litres? I have a spare in one of my sheds, along with a complete set of bodywork ;-)
Lots of big motor Lucky Explorer in UK and EU. They're bit of a cult. Alec at Proteam had one with 999R for service so just about any twin s.arm motor will go in. Ital Sport at Manchester built a few. Looky forward to this Kope. Keith.

My princess on mine the day I got it! View attachment 22905 and a few more shots of the very nice Dakar Rep..You're starting to give me ideas for a new project as well! View attachment 22906 View attachment 22907 View attachment 22908 View attachment 22909
my mate has one (nothing trick just bog stock) rotting in a shed, what are they worth? here we are then, he'd like to get rid, his words not mine, if I had any spare I'd take it on, it's been idle about a year, what's it worth? bit scruffy but standard and all there (1994 registered 46.5k kms) picture taken last year before layup.
Yes, Roy Armstrong (ex Sports Motorcycles), owner of Ital Sport, built several, starting, I think, with a 916 engined one and the last one I saw in construction was a 999R
Fab stuf here. but guys... let me rephrase the question... IF , TODAY, DUCATI WOULD ENTER THE DAKAR, WHAT WOULD THEY COME UP WITH? so, lets build a 2014 Lucky explorer... what do we do for frame, engine, suspension, electronics... just some brain gymnastics...
Ahem, that is a Kiwi bike , built by Chris Haldane, from the now defunct Ducati Dealer, Haldanes Motorcycles :frown:.
