Has anyone used either an MWR or a BMC air filter ? I want to fit carbon air tubes to my 748R track build but without exception, all the ones that have come up recently need a non standard filter. MWR do a dome style that is supported to keep it off the shower injectors and BMC do one that fits to the inlet holes in the air box. I'd appreciate any feed back. Thanks, Andy
I had a foam filter which fitted over the shower injectors/inlets, but over time there was the worry of it breaking up and being sucked into the inlets. Now have the BMC filters over the air tube inlets as they go into the airbox, but you do have to drill a couple of mounting holes, expensive but very good. You can also, I believe, get cf airtubes which still take the original in tub filters.
Only the DP carbon tunes take the filters and they are rocking horse poo I used to have the piper cross style one( badged by jhp) but it takes up alot if space in the air box and def had a big impact on midrange power, remapping in a dyno sorted most of this out but not all I have gone back to the plastic ones with piper crus oem style filters ( it's a track bike) If I were to use carbon tunes again I would prob go for the bmc ones, although there are some people who claim these starve air flow too
I have a set of BMC on mine. Easy to install. Induction roar is also dulled with an over trumpet filter. I had one on mine before i put the BMC on.
Just seen this in eBay, the price has come down by the look of it BMC SPORT BIKE AIR FILTER FM324/19 FM 324/19 DUCATI 748 FULL KIT 1998 1999 | eBay Or this one! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pipercros...pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item4ace91a228
Sure those BMC's used to be ~£175.. I;m just not convinced they are all that! Bet they need regular cleaning, lot of air over a small (restricted) area!
Not a fan of the BMC as the surface area is a lot smaller that in-tube filters or in-box filters, so that has to have an affect on performance. Even if they flow double the amount of air (because they're a performance filter) are they at least double the surface area of the OEM filter? I like the idea of the moulded Pipercross induction kit as this should give you loads of surface area and a better flow. I'm lucky enough to the the carbon DP air tubes with the filter runners inside so I use OEM shape Pipercross filters in them.
I got mine ages ago ... about 10 years or so. I think I paid about £150 for them from someone on the DSC site. Then I crashed and broke one! Fortunately the wonderful Mr AndyB had a spare and sold it to me for peanuts, so I got lucky twice. I'm sure he's still taking advantage of me over the whole affair...
@antonye , sorry for bringing this old post up... Went to have a look at a pair of DP air runners yesterday for my 998. The bloke who was selling them said that he had never fitted the std filters inside as Ducati John recommended fitting after market jobbies. Looking inside the CF tubes it wasn't clear how the std filters would fit snug inside. Can you shed any light on this please? Thanks, Ian
I have carbon tubes that take the standard filter, there are a couple of guides protruding on the inside that the original filter and cage slides into although on mine I can see a small gap to one side so I now buy filter material in a sheet and cut it slightly larger in the area concerned. Steve
Thanks @Birdie . I saw the guide (only 1 per tube inside) and a bit of a stop, folded CF plate at the front of the tube but just couldn't work out how it'd fit. Didn't spend too much time on it as I ran out of time. Any chance of a photo when you can of the extra bit you put in? Cheers, Ian
Would you think I'd be better off just sticking the bmc side filters in? I can get my hands on a cheap pipercross set of cone filters with the adaptors for the air box at half price. What do you reckon?
Unfortunately I haven't any pics of how they are fitted at the moment and my winter service is likely going to be a while as I have little room in the garage due to my two bikes and my son storing his MV while he moves house. Cone filters seem to have different views, funkyrimpler had one set on fire. Steve
