Hey all, Sunday was really nice out so i took the bike for a little spin. then the dash went all wonky on me, it got stuck at 3k rpms without moving, and engine orange light was flickering, but the bike rode fine nothing abnormal. I have stopped check the basics all seemed fine. I restarted the dash, also took it off and ensured the connection is nice and secure, and the dash works fine now, but the orange light comes on and flickers sometimes, only sometimes... I checked the error code and it says error 34 which is signal panel error... which does not say much, i have read up on it and people are saying it's a poor translation from italian, and means the panel with signals on it, so that dash. Reading further people saying that the only sensor in the dash is a barometer which tells the ecu the current air pressure to adjust the injection accordingly, has anyone had any experience with this? Is this true? If so, ... i hear all you can really do is replace the dash,.... EXPENSIVE! bike seems to ride fine, other than idles low first 15 minutes - 20 minutes and have to keep hand on throttle a bit for it not to die when standing in neutral, once warms up it's fine. any ideas?
Hi. Sorry I can’t help you with the error code, didn’t even realize that the ECU would show any faults on the Ducati dash, hope I never see any !! Just had to mention that yours is the third Black 749/999 I've seen on the forum tonight and never seen one in the flesh yet. Hope you find an easy, and more importantly an inexpensive fix to your problem. Guvs.
The air sensor is located to the right is memory serves , in a rubber right angled jobbie , I had very similar when I went to a race front subframe . I'd located this rubber somehow wrongly , upside down maybe ,cant remember but it seems its quite sensitive , don't know if it will apply to you as you probably haven't touched it but its a thought. I
What year is your bike. My 2003 999 used to throw error 34 every now and then (it relates to the barometric pressure sensor). Cleaning the dash circuit board with a circuit cleaning spray seemed to lower the instances of the EOBD light. I finally cured the problem by updating the IAW59M ECU to an IAW5AM flashed to a 2004 map.
Hi Chris, My bike is a 2005 999. i still have the original ECU, however I have replaced it about 3 months ago for the DP one that came with the Termi's. I have not had it flashed or the TPS reset at this point yet... but this is the first time I had this light come up. It didn't seem to go off much today. Seems that when it has a hard time starting in the cold morning it will throw the light, and sometimes when riding along, it will flicker slightly. From what I gather from your post, i should open the dash to see the circuit board and clean it with circuit board cleaner? right?
If you look round the join of the two halfs you will see some recesses. Just insert a flat blade screwdriver into these and the two halfs will pop apart. I got some electrical cleaner from Maplins for the job. Once dry, reassemble ensuring the rubber pegs for the toggle switches locate properly. Seemed to help for a while.
Chris forgive me here , are you saying you can split the dash which would then enable me to clean the inside of the clear screen ,as I have the infamous moisture spot. Would there then be enough room to squeeze in a tiny bag of silica to stop this problem.
Thank you Chris. Much appreciated, I will do just that! I wonder if this sensor not connecting properly could also cause my stall in idle issues when the weather is cold, at least till the bike warms up, maybe the sensor is not compensating properly for the thicker air and thus till the bike is warm it just idles too low I will look at getting this done. One final question, always a bit worried about any liquid and electrics. Should i somehow disconnect the dash from power before this? (might be a stupid and obvious question...)
If you have the fairings off then you could disconnect the -ve lead. I didn't bother. Scorpio Electronics say they are able to replace the barometric sensor if it is faulty. Scorpio Electronics265 Wootton Road King's Lynn Norfolk PE30 3AR Tel: 01553 670891 Tel: 07768 624062
issue seemed to dissapear after replacing the regulator/rectifier, which i ended up finding to be faulty... odd the EODB would tell me there are other issued but... while it turned out something else... anyways, i do ocasionally see the oedb come up still with this error but only when trying to start and cranking the fast idle too much thus causing it not to start, but turn off key and on and error gone light does not come up. guess the bike didn't start and does not know what to say so says..."umm error 34??... maybe?" italian electrics...
I have a same problem, sometimes is popping up and if i checking the error code then it Shows 34(panel sensor) and yes you are right its in the dash. Till the bike will run as it must i will not care about this and i think you should do the same.
Error solved, There was a broken soldering at one diod in the dash. My friend repaired it and repleaced the diod and till now its working without any error
