7.1 is currently in Beta (Beta 4 released today). Apple aren't claiming it's ready for mainstream use, the expectation is that it won't be in general release until March.
In that case why does it appear as an update ?? If I had known it was not ready for mainstream I wouldn't have downloaded it
U shouldn't have access to 7.1. Version 7.0.4 is the very latest released version. Others are just in test.

No, you can't retrofit iOS6. iOS7 is fine but it does make my iPhone 4 rather slow now, although I haven't tweaked the settings for optimal performance. What's supposed to be wrong with it?
