Hi I'm looking to re-new my insurance on my 748, but have been struggling to find a company that will agree on the value of my bike before opening the policy. Basically I spent last winter tarting the bike up. It's pretty much standard, but I'd like to say it is worth a bit more than the average 748's I've seen for sale recently and would like my cover to represent this. I can imagine that most Ducati owners might say the same about their own pride and joys, but I'd hate for the worst to happen and the insurance company get away with reimbursing me pittance. As I might as well ride around on any old dog. Does anyone know of any insurance companies that would agree on the value of the bike at the start of the cover, as I'd imagine you'd need to do with a custom bike? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
It don't matter. All insurance companies will pull your pants down for a damn good Rodgering no matter what you pay! They are all money grubbing cnuts,
Try Ducati Insurance, they might not be the cheapest but I've found they always give good, honest advice.
It might be worth finding out which companies are used by Harley riders - after all, almost all of them modify their bikes, and some spend an absolute fortune on extras.... but perhaps they all use some sort of HD-only insurance deals? My guess is that they don't have a large number of accidents.
Carole Nash will do an agreed valuation. I only found this out after I opened a policy with them and have no idea as to the hike in premium or whether they would even honour the agreed value. When they sent the policy there was an agreed valuation form to fill and return. Off the top of my head I think they use the VMCC (Vintage Motorcycle Club) as their source of valuation. So if your value doesn't match theirs, you're screwed, maybe. Tis all I know at this point, but must look into more myself. As an aside, I find CN an extremely worthy and up to this point, honourable company.
Indeed, both my bikes are on a custom (due to mods) policy with Carole Nash and both have agreed values which are around 3 times the 'market' value. To get the agreed value I filled in a form with a list of mods along with cost thereof and sent a couple of pics together with my estimate of the value, to which they came back with a counter offer (a little less than my proposal) which I agreed to.
Strangely when I tried Ducati insurance for my 916, they seemed surprised that I had modified my bike. They also didn't offer breakdown/recovery in the policy and the sales advisor actually 'advised' me to go with another company that offered what I wanted...
Thanks all, I'll give Carol Nash a call and go from there. Cheers for all your advice, it is much appreciated.
