The Alfa cost me £600 in service and MOT today :-( The bugger is only 3yrs old. The thing is with even remotely nice stuff, the cost of servicing becomes mental. The dealer wanted close to £500 for a service (doesn't even include oil and filter change). I took it to my usual independent, who are expensive but good. Still cost me £550 in servicing, with the only 'extra' being headlight realignment, and brake fluid change. Add £50 for MOT and there you go. I've actually asked my mum to lend me some money till pay day, and I'm 26 years old. The shame of it.
that sounds a bit steep - what is the service bill breakdown? I remember Alfa 'dealers' here got a bad name a few years ago as the network in the UK was effectively independent of Italy and as such a few sharks emerged - one in Chertsey fell foul of a hidden camera investigation after several tip-offs of sharp practice. I think they have cleaned up their act since then.
Standard service at 42k miles. Includes a fuel filter change, oil change and filter, and the usual service stuff. That's it. Nothing special at all. There are some independent alfa specialists who will do it for £250, but nothing within about 100 miles of me, so it's just not feasible for me to go there. The dealers charge £400-500 without the oil and filter and another £100-120 for that. It's basically a massive ripoff. The garage I used charges £130 for a service, but charges loads for any extras. They are honest and do good work though, and I've used them for a few years. The only good thing is service intervals are 21k miles.
adl142103 oil filter 14.13+vat ptc5l 5/30 fully synthetic long life v.good oil for d.p.f. 27.36+vat (recommended). fuel filter if the one i am thinking off aprox 42 +vat theses are cost price. 3years old 2hrs approx before strip and clean of brakes.
Yeah mate I know. Can get the fuel filter for £36 including VAT. But I know nothing about car (or bike) maintenance. I wish someone in the family had taught me. I even went to a garage when I was 18 and leaving home and asked them if I could follow someone around for a day or two to learn the basics and they told me to bugger off. Beyond changing a tyre, I'm useless. Shame really cause the premium charged my garages is crazy.
Blimey, and I thought my Audi TT was expensive. Full fluids and filter service, center diff oil and filter, brake fluid change, Air con service , plus loan car, and re-seat a bead on one tyre oh and a free mini valet thrown in. £470 including the dreaded
Don't buy a Hyundai or Kia..................cheap to buy.............but hell, the coat of parts and servicing through a main dealer are horrendous.......... ........luckily I have a decent all round motor engineers on my doorstep...........charges about 25% of what a main dealer would.
whats the labour rate down there. very easy for me to slag of other garages. but unless you have missed something in the bill. i think you have been robbed.
Ill scan the receit in tonight... When for a blast on the bike to feel better... First time with leathers this year.
My last service costs Audi A4 3.0 TDI All from Euro car Parts 9 litres of Castrol Edge £54. (It takes 8.5 litres ) Oil Filter £5 Air Filter £5 Pollen filter £3 Use of my mates garage so I can use his ramp £0
A guy at work just sold his Alfa Romeo Brera diesel because the exhaust gas recirculation valve warning ligh was starting to give him problems and he could see big bills ahead. Lovely car though. The seats were amazing.
As soon as my BMW was out of warranty I started using a good local garage, £45 plus vat per hour labour, they source all the OEM parts from Eurocar parts, reset the service indicators as well and bills are half what they used to be.
Just an example of how we are being ripped off; 6 BMW branded spark plugs £120, Google the part number and you will find they are made by NGK - 6 NGK spark plugs exactly the same but not in a BMW box £48, same with brake pads, made by Jurid, etc etc...
