I was asked to make a couple of sets of hinge pins for someone and decided to make a few more just in case anyone else wants a pair. I have three sets for sale at £12 a set including post and packing, cheaper than eBay where they range from £14.99 (ex c P and P) to £29.99. They are sturdy and made of some decent bar stock. Below a close up photo of one the sets, I have checked the fit on all of them and they are fine on my Mono seat. I have never had one break or bend but if it should happen then I happy to provide a replacement free of charge it you send the old pins back so I can copy them. Any questions please PM me, I'll keep them available for a week then I will put them on eBay. If I run out I am happy to make some more if the demand is there.
Without wanting to sound odd, why would you replace these with alloy ones ? The whole point of the plastic ones is they are designed to fail in the vent of an off rather than pull your seat unit to pieces at the front !!
Because they also fail when you don't want them to with embrittlement, that's apart from twisting and bending in use. I have several examples taken from seats in the past that show this.
In all my years with Duc owners and having stuck over 50k miles on my own 996 I've never heard it as an issue before, and not one that you'd solve with ally replacements.....
I see these things because I do and have done many 748-9** seat conversions for people from biposto to mono (and vice versa) and for race seat set-ups including conversions where non stock Ducati seats are being used in carbonfibre\ kevlar, fibreglass, aviofibre and straight carbonfibre. Like many things, not all Ducati seats original and particularly aftermarket are created equal. Throw in poor maintenance of a seat and mistreatment even of an original and it can and does create problems. The worst stock genuine Ducati seats were those produced and used between 1994 and 1997/98 when Metalplast, then makers of the seats and fairings for Ducati, produced seats\fairings that cracked and fell apart due to embrittlement with age. I have seen both a seat and a top fairing smash into many pieces on being dropped through this. That's why the type of plastic used was subsequently changed for later models. Throw in the fittings such as the pins and the seat frame hinge casting on top of that and you can have quality issues. I have seen some weird abominations in my time to hold on even stock seats.
true, but the plastic oe ones have been fine for me in over ten years. and they are as cheap as chips. I have a few spare ones in race tool box for major events/offs
