998 Oil change....advise on brands etc

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by Tommy B, Mar 28, 2014.

  1. Due to do an oil change on my 998 deep sump, its only done 300 miles since the last one however as its been sitting around for 2 years + so i feel it deserves it before a good thraping over the summer.

First of all, i've ordered a genuine filter, sump plug and washer.

Second, What oil whould people recommend?...brands etc

Third, What weight of oil have people had the best results with?

Forth, What quantity should i be dropping in?

    Cheers, Tom

  2. Motul 300v factory line 15-50. Recommended by all the top Ducati mechanics.

  3. Cheers, about 4 ltrs is about right yeah?

  4. No idea on that, mate. You need to have a look in the owners manual.

  5. 300v for me too.

  6. Any idea on the cheapest place to buy?

  7. I use Rock Oil Synthisis TRM 20/60W. As for how much, just keep pouring till the level reaches the max mark on the sight glass, start up and run until the engine is warmed up, then switch off, leave for 1/2 hour and check level and top up if required. Should be about 4l

  8. Cheers gents.

  9. As above Motul

  10. Good quality 10-40.

  11. Did you find good (cheap) place to get Motul?
Wonder why it's considered soooooooooooo good?
    Personal experience/testing or internet myth?

  12. I've had a 748 for 5 years, ran it on good quality 10/40w when i first had it. First valve service, 4 worn rockers. thank you very much sir, please bend over while we take your trousers down.

    Lesson learnt.

Been running 300v 15/50w ever since.

    No worn rockers.

£50 quid ish ebay delivered to your door.

  13. Been running my 916 since 2000 on 10w/40. Never had a rocker issue. Or any other oil related issue.

    I run my 1198 on 10w/40.

Good quality, changed regularly. No issues.
