Who is the greatest motorcyclist in the world ? , and this doesn't have to be the guy with the most wins , or best design ( That's John Britten ) . Could be Valentino's Mum ? ?????????? There is only one rule ................... no fighting over it
don't know about saying just one person is 'the greatest' but one of the many is definitely Jarno Saarinen and for me because of the impression he left when I saw him at a show in London just before he died. "1972 250cc wc Leading both the 500cc and 250cc world chamionships at the time of his death at Monza in 1973.Also won Daytona and Imola 200 on a 350cc bike competing against world class riders on far more powerful machinery. thumbs upthumbs down"
John Britten got to be up there, the man packed more into 1 life than most could in 10. Soichiro honda humble beginnings to global domination , racers got to be for me hailwood or surtees
Yeah he was the 1st I thought of mostly because of the way he died , but unfortunately his story isn't unique , and then there's Croz , Robert Holden , Dr Freeth , Stroud ..... just some of the kiwi's There are a lot of "closet " motorcyclists out there too , I had no idea my Auntie toured a Vespa all over Europe until Granny died.................now that was a surprize ...........the Auntie , not Granny karkin' it
Andrew Stroud, a great talent, wasted really, too laid back to be seriously considered Internationally when he was young, shame really.
I met the guy twice , bought him a beer in Chch and again at the festival of speed Teratonga . To speak to the guy you would have no idea of his achievements if you didn't already know
Not just the bike though building his own home, building his own boat, etcetera etc got couple of books about him and love watching the film about him, real inspirational figure.
There's too many variables that affect different people in different ways, to single out one person. To me it was my uncle Franco cos he introduced me to motorbiking and let me ride his moped when I was 7yo.
I've just been out for an hour and a half. After a bit of sunshine and some (mostly) empty roads I reckon I'm up there you know?! Hailwood, Doohan, Rossi, Schwantz, Spencer.... The list goes on. I wonder when we can add Marquez to the list?
Oddball choice...Sean Emmett. Courier, turned bike journo, turned world class racer, turned bike chauffeur. I'd say that was fairly complete.
Rainey if he hadn't had that awful accident would we be looking at the most successful racer? Spencer? 250/500 champion? Face it some awesome talent
