hi everyone just come back to Ducati after 18 months on the BMW s1000rr now I have an 11 plate 1198 but I can't stop it wheel spinning I've set the traction to level 8 and it still spins up how do I know if the traction is working ?
As I have a grudge about TC and some people using it I will suggest switch it off. You will quickly learn if it was working, you will also learn to actually ride the bike and use throttle. Finally you will have no need to post threads like this. Look at all people that have 1098 or S and stock 1198 they have no such issues and can still ride their bikes .....
TC setting of 8 is far too intrusive tbh. In the dry I have it turned OFF and leave it switched on in the wet @ setting of 3/4. On 1098R the TC works a little different, but would do the same with an 1198s. Lucas post above is quite right, learn to use the throttle control and don't rely too much on electronics.!. ;0)
Lol not actually the response I was looking for ,you have no idea what level rider I am and I thought this was a forum to ask such questions I bet you wouldn't respond this way to my face ! Bring your bike to almeria on the 20th sept and teach me how to ride Valentino !
Relax.....you'll get used to that here. It's all ment in good humour, don't take it to heart. You didn't do too badly actually. Sometimes what Lucaz is saying gets lost in his translation to English and sometimes it's just a p*ss take.
This is what I'm trying to find out because I don't think mine is working at all or don't even have traction !
I'd guess, other than asking a dealer to test somehow, turn it all off then all on and open the throttle the same amount in both cases and see what happens. As a side note, does DTC stop burn outs? Maybe you could test it like that otherwise?
From experience of talking to other 1098R/ 1198s owners, none of them like the way the DTC works anyway and therefore leave it switched off.!. ;0) Where 1198s simply cuts the fuel into the engine. On the 1098R its far more aggressive by cutting the spark. The end result is the same, just works differently. As the internals in the engine are made of different materials, the DTC interaction will probably feel somewhat different, but with the same results. Would've thought as a 'racer' you'd have investigated and or tested then enquired with the selling dealer 1st off...
fujack yes I do not know you and for all I know you might be a better rider then me (probably are) hence I said I have a grudge towards TC and SOME people using it. Sorry but how can one say I am exploring the limits of my bike, grip, my riding when TC is in the middle? Switch off TC and do the same you did with it on, if bike behavies identical you will know TC did not work. If it behavies in any other way A) you will learn how your bike feels when you are pushing it (unless you already know) and B) TC is working. From your comment I can safely assume you do not know how your bike behavies if TC is switched off as if you did you would recognise it cutting it, especially at level 8, or you would be 100% certain it does not cut in. Feeling and behaviour of bike when DTC is in action is quite obvious. Do not own one but took 1198s for test ride number of times testing DTC for the heck of it. After seeing an idiot on 1000rr in London, number of times, when he goes in to a tunnel and 100% wacks the throttle open while still half leaning over assuming TC will sort it, sorry but I would love to have a remote off switch to see how gutsy he really is. Same goes so some of my friends in sport cars. They go fast and all that in them but when I asked one of them to switch off all driver aids bar ABS he was spinnign that car at half speed.
Ok I know the traction ain't working this is why it's wheel spinning coming out of corners and in a straight line in the wet I spoke to Ducati Aylesbury and the salesman told me only the S has traction ?? Which confused things even more , I asked why does it have a wheel speed sensor on the front wheel and he didn't know I have checked the spec online and it says ALL 2011 1198 Ducati's have traction. Is this correct dealer saying one thing net saying another and other standard 1198 for sale are advertised with traction
Depends on year according to Ducati website. 2010 1198 seems to be TC only on S, 2011 seems to be all (check Ducati.com, model archive), I'd have thought the big giveaway would be if you have the menu on the dash to change the TC setting level, it must be fitted. Try that one with the dealer.
I did and was told " it might be on the dash but that don't mean it has it " but if it didn't have it what's the front wheel speed sensor for ??
Is it a 2010 model registered in 2011? I still couldn't explain the wheel sensor and the options in you menu tho...... It all sounds a bit strange!
When you look at a non DTC model it has no wheel speed sensor think I need to speak to another dealer
Sounds like dealer might be talking out of wrong end. Guess the next move is consult another dealer and or contact Ducati and get them to tell you if you have TC or not. Find it hard to believe they would fit a sensor and allow you to adjust it on the dash and not have fitted it. Mind you having said that, as the bloke in the States found, just 'cos you have an ABS light on your Harley, doesn't mean you have ABS. As you say, if yours has DQS, then it should be the model with TC. The 2010's didn't have QS, so they seem to have either had full electronics package or none, therefore sounds like your TC is kaput. I'd def contact Bologna by email and go from there.
I agree so is there any way I can tell if it's working or not is there any tc light that flashes when it's operating you would hear it working with termi's or does it put a light onif there is a problem ?
Why? You sound like you have a lot of green envy. Sometimes a fast car/bike is just a nice thing to have and be able to exploit in the way the owner/driver/rider wants to - and he probably doesn't care about what others really think?
