Recommended Sprocket + Chain Brands?

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Amentia, Mar 21, 2014.

  1. Hi,

I need to order a new chain and sprockets for my 1997 750ss.

I was wondering if anybody has any recommendations on brands? This is my first bike and I have not bought chains or sprockets before so I wanted to get some opinions from you guys.

I don't mind something a bit more expensive, as long as it is worth the money. The bike will have road use only so I don't need anything race spec.

    Cheers

  2. I would gear it to give you the best acceleration exiting Clearways.

  3. You can't go wrong with DID chain. There are several "grades", but as long as you get one with X-rings (which supersede O rings) it should be fine. Realistically, the 750 does not need a super-heavy-duty version. Renthal hard-anodised sprockets seem to be promoted sometimes, but as far as I know steel ones will always be good enough, and the JT brand is good. I have heard less-than-flattering things about Regina chains, but see what others say? The most important points are to get the right chain/sprocket sizing and to ensure that the special joining link is installed correctly.

  4. Cheers guys.

From what I have seen, as you say, DID seem to be the best chains. I'll check out some Renthal sprockets. If the price of hard anodised sprockets isn't too bad then I'll go for that.

  5. Just replaced front + back sprockets on my 999. Went with Renthal and so far quite impressed. Very light and quality looks quite good.

  6. FWIW I ran Tsubaki X-Ring Gold chains on both my ST4 and 600 Monster and got good mileage from them both (20k+) even without a Scottoiler or similar. Just regular cleaning and lubrication. Bought them from B&C Express online who sell various makes at good prices and extremely fast delivery.

  7. Renthal looks like the way to go. I've heard a lot of good things about them.

They do renthal sporckets and DID chains so I'm laughing. Cheers :)

  8. I've just ordered Renthal chain and sprockets for my Hyper.

  9. AFAM for me.

  10. In the end I bought some Renthal sprockets and a D.I.D chain. Thanks for the advise
