749 Trading In - What To Do.

  1. Picking up a new bike on Saturday so the 749 has to go.

    1) Do I take off the carbon bits and sell separately?

    2) The clutch (works fine) but is very loud, suggesting the plates and basket need replacing. I have these parts, do I leave it or have it done before trade in? I could sell the parts instead of fitting them, unless they would fit on to a 1098 SF when it needs doing.

    3) Do I sell the whole bike as is privately? Extra hassle plus the last belt service I didn't get a stamp, so will get knocked down for that.

    4) Any ideas on what price to ask for? Gloss black 06 749 bip with Termi's, open clutch, dp rear hugger, cf seat cowl, new levers, billet reservoir covers, Oberon slave cylinder, new rear cog (up 5 teeth). 22,000 miles!

  2. What is your dealer expecting to receive from you. If he gave you the p/x price based on what he saw then there's your answer.
     
  3. He hasn't seen it yet. I've left it open as to how I fund the deposit on the new bike, depending on the trade in value.

    As a wild figure I thought 2k.
     
  4. I always remove all bling from my bikes if I'm trading them into a dealer. In my experience you don't get any more on your trade in anyway and it'll be fairly easy to sell them on as most parts will fit the 999 as well.

  5. £2k seems cheap...I'd say closer to £3k,and i agree with mongoose, take all the bling off... you wont get anymore for the bike with it on but the dealer will charge more for the bike!...dealers doncha love 'em!;)

  7. Might be of interest. I've been looking at trading in my 999 for a 1098, as a ballpark figure the dealer told me for a 2005 999 bip with termi exhaust he would offer around £3k figure... so probably close maybe a little less for a 749. They go on Autotrader cheapest for about £4.5k -£6k and more... definitely get MORE when selling privately, however... there is not a huge market for these so might take a W.....h....i...l.....e to sell.. your choice in the end. Could plan to sell privately and keep 2 bikes till you find a buyer for the 749 and make more money this way.

  9. Termi's, seat cowl (mine's a bip), red bobbins, black/dark double bubble screen, carbon 'bits' at the top of the fairing, smoked lenses, tail tidy, never used paddock stand, ventura rack, DP tank bag. Thats's all the parts relating to this bike.

    Im more leaning towards a private sale with everything left on it, for ease. Bike here -

    * carbon exhaust shield
