Hi Does anyone know what size the electrical connectors/terminals are in the ECU plug. RS part number would be great I been told that i have 4 wires & terminals that need replacing. Better to find new terminals than replace the wiring looms
They are a pain to crimp. If you PM me your details I will send you some wires with the pins already crimped on. These have been removed from some connectors.
If it helps anybody else, the connectors are Buy Automotive Connector Accessories CMC 0.5mm sq crimp terminal Molex 64322-1039 online from RS for next day delivery.
The guys at Ducati Coventry have done an awesome job on the 1098 electric's and all is good again. Also the regulator needed replacing. Thank you to Rick & John at JHP for doing what they could to help me; cheers lads
Just out of curiosity, do you ride the bike in the rain at all? Just wondering how wires could become knackered that sit behind the rad and oil cooler. did anyone mention why this has happened? Yours, Curious.
My bike did this; the fuel pump relay spades were corroded; 1k miles on the clock from new! Has been fine since with a clean up and coating with acf50 and I have a spare relay
Yes I ride the bike all year round, in all weathers. When you pay so much for a bike it should be ridden. The bike is cleaned and water blown off before drying and polishing. I also spray WD40 on the electrical connectors The bike has done 21K and really should not have this sort of problem. You certainly would not expect it from any car with 21k on the clock! I am not the first and i will not be the last to suffer from corroded wires and connectors. My 996 never suffered from this and it did +30K in all weathers, before i sold it and i believe its still going strong. Just bad luck.
Hardly surprising given the location of the ECU below the battery at the bottom of the fairing. Same for the relays behind the battery. But you're right, it shouldn't happen. The ECU plugs have a waterproof seal but the back of the plugs are sealed up with textile insulation tape. I haven't seen that stuff used in the UK since the '60s. I seal them up with self-amalgamating tape and apply ACF50 to the pins/socket and also to the relay sockets.
