Since when have monopolies and "supply & demand" been mutually exclusive ideas? And yes, the FA and FIFA are monopolies, in the same way that governments are monopolies. They are a means to control "product" (or more concisely, control the profits from "product").
Well, that makes any sporting association a monopoly. It's good to loathe FIFA, but not because of what they are supposed to do, more the way that they do it.
NO. I disagree. What about UEFA? What about the Premier League? Mighty be a cartel, but not a monopoly.
Those questions are way over my head. It's all footy and all footy is crap yet the masses are addicted to it. I just don't have the footy gene.
I'll nitpick - the FA, UEFA and FIFA structures are hierarchic with regard to each other, with separate areas of influence that occasionally overlap. That isn't strictly a cartel but I'm not unduly worried if someone wants to use that word
Not worth starting a new thread to say how the Jockinese were totally outclassed by the Prem Primadonnas last night. But they were. If you get outclassed by England, you've got problems. Mind you, to be fair, England were pretty good and ran around a lot with intent and energy. They still spent too long in the first half jinking around rather than lashing in a few shots, but you can't argue with 3-1 and the game had very few fouls and no rolling around on the floor or people pretending to be pole-axed. In fact, a pretty good and entertaining game. Unless you are Jockinese.
I thought it was a fair result. England should beat us and 2 goals separating us is a fair enough result. Ive no complaints. I too was pleased to see no rolling around like fairies. Fair play to both squads. No arrests afterwards either so all in all a good advert for getting this game to happen more often. The tackles were hard but fair. I enjoyed the game but not the result. We were beaten fair and square.
