They were the best fairing parts I could get without going Chinese. I've had different info about the decals-one says that some SPS had no 748 on the side, another that they should be the full, diagonal set. What's your recommendation? Would you decline to buy it because of that?
No its tidy. I got an old set of SP fairings in the shed, one side good nick the other a bit scraped. Yours for a beer donation if you fancy em.
Happy to have them. They are too far to collect - could you let me know total including P&P plus quite a bit of beer?
The decals are correct for a late SPS although it depends on what shade colour they are, there are two colour shades and the later 1999 type is a dark metallic charcoal\silvery grey. Earlier ones are different. The petrol tanks sometimes have decals on them that is a bit pot luck though, but whatever you have (if any) should match the side panel colour decals.
Don't think so-there's sign of an old fracture coming down from the top, rather than sideways as I'd expect if it had been down.
Is it possible to repair the Fuel Level Sensor? I'm sure I've blown it by putting 12V DC through it with the wrong polarity-there was a pop and now the light stays on! If not, is there a spare used one out there?
I would say no, they are quite fragile and often go wrong anyway, my fuel level sensor was faulty from new when iIbought my 998 and it was repaired under warranty. Don't try and run without one as you are likely to get caught out at just the wrong time. The normal fault is that they don't register a low fuel level and then all of a sudden you fine yourself with an almost empty tank. Have you checked your wiring to make sure it's not permanently earthed by accident, that would cause the warning light to come on? They are pretty expensive to replace.
Fairly common break, I reckon they crack due to the force people put on them trying to hold the wheel whilst torqueing the wheel nut. If you're searching places like ebay for a replacement, it helps to know that 749/999 use the same part, and I'm not sure but I think 1098 models may also...
Just swapped my forks over-you'd have thought I'd have noticed the different spacing on the caliper mounts!
