1200 Well That Didnt Work - Just Fitted Decat And Mivv And Its No Better

  1. I think I may have more of a problem than fueling, have the standard lean running at low revs and surging. Took out cat and fited Mivv decat pipe and Suuvo end can, it now seems to vibrate more and runs no better.

Anybody any new ideas, am contemplating Fat Ducs but am loathed to throw more money at an already eye wateringly expensive bike (came from an ST1050 to a 12 plate MTS 1200 s touring)

Am getting to wits end. Bugger wont run right

  2. What model? Twin spark? Mine has never lurched or had fuelling issues, either with std can or since I de-cat with the std exhaust (which, btw is coming off as its way too loud!) pulls cleanly from very low revs right thru the range, no hesitation or even 4-5k blips.

  3. mine is single spark, decat with standard is way too lood as it has no baffling anywhere and 5am starts lead to fights with neighbours.

  4. Ar right, CJS or similar where you need to go then. Or see if someone can simply flash it with an improved map.

  5. What did you do about the exhaust flap motor ? If you simply disconnected it the ECU will still think it's there which will result in an error. The Leo V decat comes with a counterbalance weight which is a simple if time consuming fix. Andy

  6. Had the same problem with new decat and akrapovic slip on,tried fat ducs and no better.
Chris at CJS 'breathed' on it,the guy really knows his stuff.
Result was a completely different bike.
The tech that services my bike said he loves it.

  7. The Mivv comes with clamp and spring bodge to get by the servo sensor and resulting alarm on dash. That was OK the bike still runs like a bag of spanners. :Banghead:
CJS would be fine but I dont know about anyone else but I am slightly loathed to throw another £350+ at remapping a bike that should bloody work, also I am in York and thats a lot of ride to get to Bristol?

  8. Its an issue I have seen everywhere related to the single spark multis. I think fatducs seem to sort it, may be worth a search on andyW site or multistrada.net

  9. Take it from me fat ducs didn't work on my bike.
Cris at CJS took them off and told me to bin them.
I know what you mean Swampdonkey about the trip to Bristol because I'm
    in North Lancsashire.
Believe me when I say that I smiled all the way home.
It cost me an arm and a leg including a day off work but worth every penny.

  10. Unfortunately if you had fuelling issues before you fitted the decat you have probably compounded the issue.

Normally jerking and shunting at lower revs is a lean fuelling issue, opening up the exhaust usually makes it worst.

You could try a rexxer remap which isn't as good as a CJS remap but cheaper and far better than Fatducs.

  11. Please let me explain.
Chris at cjs will run you bike in each gear and look at what is actually happening to the burn in each cylinder. He'll then adjust each fuel map. Followed by each spark map. In each gear. First one cylinder then the other.
The mts1200 has a very powerful ECU and as such Chris can make your bike sing.
This will be the best money you've ever spent on your bike.

Loading in someone else's maps is a waste of time.
Another MTS with the same decat and exhaust had already been on the dyno at Cjs.
We loaded that as a new start point for my bike and it was worse (much worse) than the standard map I went in with.

Each engine is quite different to the next.
Note my front and rear maps are also different to each other.

  12. Hi Bradders, that's why I went for the Leo Vince decat and end can. With the baffle in its OK noisewise. Without the baffle its way too noisy.

  13. Thanks for that guys, I am aware of remapping but my issue still remains that Ducati knew there was an issue with the single spark engine and merrily sent me on my way having pocketed an eyewatering amount of money. My MTS is so unruly at low running speeds and low revs as to be almost unridable/ dangerous tipping into corners or roundabouts in the rain. I feel that to throw another £500 at a 'new' bike to make it run correctly is a little galling. I am not asking for a performance tweek to end all tweeks just a bike that will bloody run right. (getting off soap box now).

I am taking Ducati to task over this but feel they are more inclined to let us the riders fix problems they will happily send the bikes out with, take the rear brake as a prime example, Imagine BMW or AUDI sending out a car and saying Oh yeah we know about that, just give yourself more stopping distance and youll be fine. Wouldnt happen.
Tainted what was supposed to be an exiting foray into Ducati ownership.

  14. Thx rotaxracer, I think the Mivv can and decat has made the bike worse and am likely to go back the standard can and the cat as I cant afford both them and the remap. I think a remap is going to be the way forward, reluctantly. Will have a chat with the guys at CJS to find a solution

  15. Is it that different to many other bikes that need clutch slip at low rev, slow speed in poor conditions in the wet?! Mountain - molehill come to mind, unless something is really wrong. Will it sit at a steady throttle in second at 25?

  16. Nope bradders it wont. However neither my GSX, Blackbird or speed triple needed clutch slip at low revs. Good throttle control, balance and balls were good enough :D

  17. I've never known a twin which, at roundabout speeds, didi t need a slip of the clutch. But at 25 in second they move along on constant throttle with a mph or two up and down given the road camber etc. except a SPS I bought which would t hold steady throttle even at 70 and was fecked

  18. If thats the case at 25 then it has some issue because it bucks and pulls and wont ride steady (even for a twin)
My mate took it out and his response was "feck that it needs fettling" He rides a Capo and has had twins most of his biking life.

  19. Swamp Donkey if you had surging at low rpm without the exhaust valve (you've fitted a decat and no Exhaust valve error on the display) you have another serious problem. I found the surging on the MTS1200 2010-2012 model, so bad I felt the same as you. However when I fitted the Decat and the fatducs this transformed the bike, but it wasn't 100%.
From memory I fitted the FatDucs first then the Decat, so I don't know if the surging would have remained if I had done it the same way as you.
Hence I went to CJS and now it's brilliant....when it's not in the workshop having new cambelt guides...full ducati service history.....+£15,000 motorcycle....GERRRR....but I still love it.

  20. Paul yours is the 2013 model, which has this problem solved.
