I've been watching the thread about people's experiences with 1098R and 1198 gearboxes and quick shifters especially on both road and track bikes. I followed the link to the Nova web site and was interested to see that they made a replacement gear set for the 748 and that got me wondering if the 748 had shown a similar weakness. Anyone had or heard of experiences ? Already committed to a complete winter engine rebuild including is it "rumbling" the gears ? Anyway if I was looking for something to spend my money on I would consider a Nova upgrade - because I'm worth it . Andy
I think if it had, it might've showed up in threads by now. Spend away though. No reason is as good as a reason in my book
I much prefer the pound foot force, I know where I am with Imperial units. Probably a function of being over 60. Andy
I had a main bearing failure on my 748R engine and when it was rebuilt a couple of dogs in the gearbox were showing signs of wear, they were still usable but were showing signs of starting to round on the edges, this was on an engine that I had purchased having done only 4,000 miles. Fortunately I had a spare gearbox so that was put in. Whether it was just one of those things or the person that owned the bike previously had been very heavy on it I don't know. So wear is not out of the question, I think If I was doing a rebuild I would just get the gearbox tumbled and leave it at that. Secondhand gearboxes are cheap enough and seem to last well and would certainly last a season on track. I personally wouldn't invest a lot of money in a Nova gearset when I could spend it elsewhere.
