hi chaps im currently running 5 spoke marchesini wheels on my 748bp track bike, thinking of putting a set of dymag carbon/magnesium on,would there be much difference in weight and handling?? is it worth the expense?? cheers.
Light weight wheels is one of the best up grades you can do as you have less rolling mass and quicker steering. I am running Marchesini road and track mag alloys on my 748R track bike and the only thing I would probably change is to go back to a 5.5" rear rim instead of the 6". A 190/55 tyre is very predictable but a little slow to turn in but there is a plus to that in no "surprises". Andy
Don't buy the Dymag ones that are listed on eBay, if you are thinking that, as they may dodgy or faulty. There's a thread already running about an engine that he was selling where he had declared the wrong mileage. What Would You Do?? | Page 2 | Ducati Forum
yeah ive seen his stuff before not overly impressed to be honest, some stuff very expensive for what it is. I have my own carbon/mag wheels already on my road bike just debating whether to put them on the track bike or not,but thanks for the heads up,im running 180/55 on both bikes.
If you already have carbon/mag wheels on your road bike then I would expect you should have a good idea whether they are a worthwhile mod for your track bike. Why not swap them over and give it a whirl?
being on my road bike i couldnt really feel much difference to be honest, but i dont use the road bike very often, but yeah il put them on the track bike and see if they do make a difference. cheers
they would be way better on the track bike, wasted on the road (pretty as they are) i regularly use 10 spoke alloys and 5 spoke mag wheels on my 998 I recently put a set of the original 5 spoke alloy wheels on and started missing my apexs by miles for half a sesssion until i adjusted my tip in markers and countersteed harder, you really feel the lower gyroscopic affect of lighter wheel when turning the bike
there the same as mine, but mine are painted silver, there going on the track bike over winter along with some other parts.
I disagree lightweight wheels are wasted on the roads.Ive run Dymag lightweight wheels on my duke and they are night and day difference to the alloy marchesini's fitted before. On the roads they are the same as track - they make bike accelerate much faster brake far better and handling much improved.Even the engine sounds and feels different running them as it doesn't seem to have to work as hard with the big weight loss on wheels. I went back to heavier wheels for a while when I had a problem and hated the bike until I got the Dymags back on it.Ive also found lightweight fuel tank makes a big difference to bikes handling.
I would imagine you could lean the bike a little quicker at higher speeds, less gyroscopic forces in play with the reduced mass.. They really do look nice though, a waste on me being a fairly newish rider
U misunderstand me matt. If you can afford to have lightweight wheels on road and track bikes then great. If it's a choice then they are better on the track Bike IMHO
