1200 Quat D Mounting Fails

  1. As above, the bracket that bolts to the bike and also has the centre stand "stop" on my bike has cracked the weld. More stunning Italian quality.
Getting it re-welded is going to be fun, I won't bother contacting the manufacturer as it's 2 years old and by their attitude last time I had to speak to them they won't give a shit anyway.
    Be aware!

  2. Could you post a picture triple, think I may have the same issue, mines going along a weld seam

  3. That's where mine has failed. The part where the centrestand rests against it, offside.

  4. I had this, but QD replaced the pipe... It was ages ago admittedly... On the new pipe, the centre stand rest is re-designed. Works much better.

  5. I posted about this a month or so back complete with pictures. Mine has done the same.
The later centre stand rest is not the problem, and does not alter the fact that the lower mount still cracks right the way through.

The cause for this, as far as I can tell, is the fact that the mount is bolted to the frame with a fixed plate. That is, its not using the rubber mounting 'dog bone' used on the original cat. It cannot therefore expand, or move as it needs to.
This isnt helped with the centre stand slamming into the pipe each time the bike is taken off it, and each time the stand touches down.

I havent had my bracket welded again yet, but intend to do so over winter, and then use one of the dog bone mounts and fabricate whatever else is required to attach it next time.

  6. It's going to take some thought in order to be able to isolate it however we need to be careful that we aren't simply relocating the stress elsewhere.

  7. I finally got around to removing it for it to be welded this week.
Reckon it's worth checking yours for fractures just in case.

  8. Mines exactly the same too. Hasn't fallen off in 1500 miles so planning on leaving it alone!

  9. I'm going to have it done and look at a way of isolating it from vibration. If I can't come up with a solution I won't put the bolt back in!

  10. Give Sugru a Google. It dries into a hard rubber and sticks to almost anything. Will easily resist exhaust heat too. That should stop any bashing of the stand on the exhaust. My stand rubber came off straight away so I just Sugru'd it.

  11. It's not the stand hitting it, it's the fact that it's mounted directly to the engine with no way of isolating it from the vibrations. I'm going to try putting rubber either side of the bracket and see if that helps.

  12. All welded and acid dipped to make the system look at least half decent :Muted: If the weather holds I'll be re-fitting it later today:upyeah:

  13. Well despite having mine re welded, it has broken again.

Without a doubt (imo anyway) it is due to the lack of being rubber mounted.
its not caused my bike any issues, so I've just Not bothered to fix it this time.
