Hi all! Does anybody elses indicator lights on the dash come on and off when another lamp on the dash comes on, such as the low fuel warning light? They come on and off at irregular times, sometimes only one etc. The indicators aren't switched on by the way. Cheers, Chris.
Are they coiming on as a faint glow ? If so its likely to be the start of an earth fault on the clocks, unfortunately a common problem on older bikes.
As above, my indicators don't "come on" as such, but when the indicators are operating, other dash lights flash faintly in time with them.
Ditto, and some glow slightly when main beam indicator or low fuel light is on. The bike is a 2010 and it's done it all the time I've owned the bike, a year and a half. If I could get into the dash I'm sure I could fix it but there's no way of getting into the bloody thing.
Sounds like you've got the dreaded dash moisture ingress issue. Starts to play havoc with the display and can't be fixed. New dash is the only answer. Mine died at 22,000 miles.
Has anyone got an old set* of clocks I can carefully dismantle. I want to see what the issue is and work out a way to make a cheap repair. Note: I'm an electronics engineer, so I'm sure I can fix them. The issue is working out how to get them apart in such away that they can be re-sealed and refitted. I will publish the results and the fix on here once it's been worked out. If Andy thinks it's worthy he could also put it on his site. *That displayed this faint glow of the left hand n/s indicator LED when another LED was lit. e.g. low fuel, high beam Neutral etc.
I'm afraid I haven't got an old dash for you to play with but I thoroughly applaud your intention to fix one and document the result. As another, now retired, electronics technician I also fairly sure I could fix them too but as you know the challenge will be getting into it without destroying the case. FWI when I had mine off last winter I did notice that there are what looks like two screws on the underside that look like they would hold the upper and lower halves of the case together, but they are flush hex heads with rounded corners and sunk into the case with very little clearance. So some sort of special tool would be required. It would probably be possible to make some thing. Then the halves of the case may have a simple rubber/plastic seal or they may be bonded together. If you get a dash, get it apart, fix it and get it together again. I'd be very interested. Some of my lights glow when others are lit.
Yes, it's definitely better to play with a spare set than mess up your still working, if not properly, one.
Looks like protwins or someone on exactly the same postcode is selling some MTS1200 clocks for £200 on fleabay. Am I right in saying that these are useless without the matching key and transponder receiver? Anyone changed there own clocks? I assume that there must be a level of programming required to get them to work (CAN and all that)? I might buy these, however I'll then have to try and get my money back for charging for the knowledge. Perhaps charge for refurbishing peoples failing clocks?
The red arrows indicate what I think are screws. They look round in the picture but actually have flats on them that you can just see on the LH one.
OK...I'm going to go for it. Buy the £200 off Fleabay and strip it. I could become famous in the Ducati world (solving an issue)...but probably just gonna waste £200 :Bag:
I don't think so, they looked like metal to me. But if they are blanking plugs you can just howk them out.
My dealer got inquisitive and tried to pull aprt a set of clocks. Result looked like they'd been run over by a truck. The glass and bits are all stuck together, so seemed impossible to open without breaking the film/glass electric bits.
