What do you think folks. I need some guidance here......me being a naive soul and all that. When I bought this 748, it was a spontaneous buy. Didn't do any research, saw it, rode it, loved it bought it in in one day. Didn't know what an SPS was at all. Got it home, saw an SPS sticker on it, did a bit of reading and thought "oh thats good it's an SPS, bargain". Now I know its not an SPS, but has been remapped to give it some more HP, has Ohlins shock, Remus cans and has all the receipts where the previous owner converted it from a Biposto to a monoposto. Sheds loads of service history, all the frame and engines tie up. I know its not hooky but for some reason one of the previous owners wanted to stick an SPS sticker on it. mmm? Anyway, I need to sell it to buy an 848, but how should I go about listing it and do you think I'd have to compromise on the price much? it's 16k miles, vgc and had all the belts and valves doen this year. Hoping for £3k, Do you think it's possible? ?
just be honest about it when advertising it,its proberly got an sps single seat and sub frame on it,im sure someone would give you the asking price if its as clean as you say it is.
See what others are asking for stock bipostos and match it up accordingly. Do you have the original stock parts. There is quite difference between a stock biposto and an SP/SPS and anyone knowing anything about these models will spot it straight away.
Yeah, I've got a "Ugly fecker on board" sticker on my car, but it only applies if the mother-in-law is with me
What year is it? The discs suggest a 2001/2002 so have been swapped, my 2002 had the same ones, but the frame suggests pre 2001 as they went to silver. Wheels also. It looks tidy but yeah worth putting up with notes to say your aware it's just an sps etc or something that says your not 'trying' to pass it off as one. Bet it's lovely to ride though.
All SP\SPS's were Yellow no Red models were made. They also had grey levers not silver ones as pictured.
Personally, and this is just me and I realise it is open to some debate, If I were describing It I would describe it as a conversion, which is what it is. I would not say that putting a mono seat on a biposto is an attempt to create a replica, especially in the case above when it clearly only has that one item plus the shock that is linked to another model and nothing else. Apart from those two items nothing makes it anywhere near close to an SP\SPS which has very specific features, some of which would be retrograde (the electrics) by comparison to a bike of the same year. The SPS in particular was quite year specific in it's features in very subtle areas. In my opinion It's like putting a mono seat on an early Red biposto and saying it is a Strada replica. I don't think you can describe it as that.
You're right Phil its a T Reg, '98 and it is lovely to ride. Thanks for your advice folks. I'm gong to get the one of the fairing panels resprayed where it's scratched and put it up for sale with a decent open description on the changes. Cheers.
