Pissing Nut

  1. Why is it I can never get the rear wheel undone!! Any tips on how to remove it because its doing my head in
     
  2. I've got a clarke air gun and it's shite cant remove a wheel nut
     
  3. Leverage is all you need. The tougher it is to get undone then the more leverage you need, simples. There's no need to pull hard if you have a dirty big bar. If you only have a short torque wrench/breaker bar then just stick something like a scaffold bar over the end of it. Just dont bother using the Oberon sockets as they are made of soft cheese. You need a proper steel one (do a search or check my other posts for a thread on it in the multistrada forum).
     
  4. if it's got a hammer action and you have a decent size compressor then the your nut must be arc welded on

    I've tried a long bar and all I seem to do is drag the bike down the garage

    Great for wheel nuts, flywheels, even car drive shaft nuts etc.
    The only thing is, you tend to loan it out a lot, like I have done.

  9. I had a Clarke impact wrench and even on the highest setting and with a decent compressor with high air pressure it made no difference. Clarke sadly are cheap and cheerful in some areas, not all to be fair. You need to use a higher quality impact wrench and it should do the job, Ingersoll Rand or something similar.
     
  10. Apart from the excellent value for money Clarke CEW1000 can't comment on Clarke guns in general (but can't see why it should be substandard unless faulty) 200 psi is what I should have said instead of 'decent'. As said, if this doesn't shift it then something else is definitely wrong.

  12. I used to do it the Heath Robinson/scaffolding way with either back brake on or large wooden post stuck between wheel spokes if on my own but now use above electric hammer gun and it's a piece of cake everytime.
     
  13. For anything extremely tight I have a torque multiplier from my heavy plant days . If I remember right it puts out 5 times what you put in up to 2500 lbs foot which if effing tight . It can be used either to tighten or slacken and requires 3/4 inch drive sockets made of girders .

    the dugs, use this more in the workshop than the pneumatic. more torque better hammer action. 10yrs old 6years full time still perfect.
     
  16. i have. :upyeah:

    just putting another option out there. i use this one day in, day out at work. each time i use it, i have to tighten 8 m20 nuts down to 200N 4 times. this will last forever in a garage.
     
  17. Clarke cew1000 gun I use to undo with no problems. I put a rubber band on the front brake lever and job done. I do apply some grease to the nut faces as well which really helps for next time.
