Theirs a group of about ten of us we do everything together , look whats happening Me I'm building a cb 900 to hopefully race in the Classic German Superbike series Brother Andy making a Suzuki 7/11 to use at Spa next year Mate Dave nearly finished his Jota he bought unseen on a pallet earlier in the year Mate Barry making a Triumph street scrambler [ I loaned him some Sideburn mags ] Mate Brian just phoned today to say he's buying an sohc Honda and plans to graft usd forks and a modern swinging arm Any one else caught the bug ?
Yup! Making a modern NC30 from a knackered old nc30 I got a for £300. Full strip and rebuild. GSXR 1000 k4 forks, probably a gsxr rear shock too, when the time comes. Tokico 6 pot brakes, digital dash, shiny parts galore. Currently stripping horrid paint off the frame and SSSA prior to a polish up. Not mirror finish though.
I feel your pain I know what you are going through , we are back to oily light switches , kettle and door handles I don't think Mrs 899 likes it
Me too  wish I just had paint to take off the frame - have to grind every bracket and brace off the headstock and down tubes . Much prefer forming the new tubes so doing that first and putting off the angle grinder attack!
I took a brass brush bristle to the eye ball yesterday. That'll teach me for not wearing PPE. At least grinding is a relatively quick job. I did a bit of tube bending last year for MADASL and ruined quite a lot of tube before it started going right.
I've spent the last week recovering from a lens replacement, vitrectomy (removing the jelly contents of my eyeball) and foreign body removal. It's the weirdest sensation seeing the foreign body laying on your retina and then seeing pliers come in and remove it. The sucking out of the jelly and blood was a visually psychedelic experience too. I knocked a cutting tool in my lathe with the tailstock when setting up and a shard flew off into my eye, the lathe wasn't even running!
Does anyone have a clue about bearings? I can't find a bearing in the size I want on bearing supplier websites. Does this mean it isn't made? I would like 30mm ID x55mm OD x 14mm depth for easy grafting of a GSXR stem to a different headstock.
Your best bet Tom, is to locate your local bearing supplier and take the original in for them to match Projects? I have a few (too many) Project 1 900ss (nearing completion) Project 2 900ss SuperPantah Project 3 748 Fast By Ferracci 853 engine for 851 Lookee Likee Project 4 Guzzi T3 Spa bike Project 5 1967 Ducati Cadet reassembly
30 x 55 x 13 here Bearings But if your wanting a taper roller I guess the ID to OD ratio you are wanting isn't possible...
I'm determined to finish the maserati build ASAP, so I can resume configuring the following Ducatis bits into bikes: 860GT frame, 2 x elefants frames, pantah frame, ST2 frame, 2 x 749 engines, 900 paso engine, 3 x 750 elefant engine, 600ss engine
You can get 30 x 55 but 17mm thick - can this work. I know the link is USA but should be available at your local supplier too... 32006 Nachi Tapered Roller Bearings Japan 30x55x17:Tapered-Roller
I saw that. I need to remove the existing part of the bearing in the head stock to see if it has a seat @14mm depth that would stop a 17 being used. I'll have to see.
I've used this company before who stock the 17mm ones Quality Metric and Imperial Inch Sized Taper Roller Bearings Available To Buy On
Getting closer - 30 x 55 x 15 ..... 32006 Bearing 30x55x15mm 30x55x15,Taper bearing - Hong Kong Desunbearing Co., Ltd Ah, wrong type
