Urgent Advice Needed - Knee Pain Relief Gels

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by damodici, Sep 15, 2014.

  1. Yes I appreciate this isn't a medical forum but I'm hoping a wider audience will just get me the answer I need

In a nutshell I've recently had an mri on my knee as it was hurting a bit, seems there's something wrong with the cartilage and I have to see a specialist next Wednesday

It actually stopped hurting for a few weeks up until this weekend when I built a shed, I must have twisted it or something as it's bloody killing and feels like I've banged my shin just below the knee as that's painful to the touch, but my knee cap throbs like before so probably connected to previous injury

Christ knows what I've done but the timing is shite as I go away on the bike this Thursday until Monday in France

What I'm after is a recommendation for a really good gel ideally with anti inflammatory and pain killing properties?

I'd rather directly treat the injured area as opposed to popping pills as I'd be concerned about drowsiness etc

I don't have time to try different makes or get prescription, I just need a solid pain killing gel to get me over the next week until I see the specialist next Wednesday

    Help

  3. I would go see doctor you could have fractured the cartilage when you twisted and that's really painful
It lies under your knee cap and top of shin

  4. Get Voltarol gel the blue one not the orange one, sure you will have to ask for it as it will be behind the counter.

  5. You can have diclofenac 50mg, one a day. That'll sort the inflammation. Eat with food. Paracetamol to moderate the pain.

If you can't get the diclofenac from anyone (it's prescription only ) then self - medicate ibuprofen.

You can get a much better result by using non-steroidal drugs to control the inflammation of injuries and then pain killers to control the pain.

  7. tramadol and red wine is great pain relief ( not to be used while in control of a vehicle and if pain persists... errrr... see a doctor?)

  8. Or this Naproxen - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

  9. Paracetamol and codeine two of each together every four hours, that was prescribed for my pain relief recently with a broken shoulder blade, I was told not to take ibuprofen as this slows the healing process.

  12. codeine is prescription only too, I think. Ibuprofen reduces swelling; if your pain is caused by something such as an inflamed tendon (such as runner's knee or tendonitis.) The primary cause of the pain being worsened by the swelling. So if you didn't take something like ibuprofen then the injury wouldn't get better. So avoiding NSAIDs because they prolong healing is not applicable to all injuries.

I think, based on my experience of leg injuries, that ibuprofen and Paracetamol is your best bet until your doc gives you something stronger.

  13. Done this before, in the UK the tablets were £400 :Jawdrop: in Italy £80

  16. ducbirds got the best answer ,go to docs.

as an aside,i took my right knee out as a young lad trying to be barry sheene doing the knee down bit,:Bag:,all was going well till i tucked in too tight on a roundabout,a roundabout as it turned out that had stupidly high kerbing, fkn hurt that did and no poncy leathers etc, jeans n leather jacket on a norton atlas cafe racer(standard atlas with upside down ace bars :Hilarious:).

30 yrs on and it still hurts, two operations in that time and itll never heal basically.
ive since knocked it out countless times doing simple things like sitting on the crapper, having a wank and running upstairs.

go to the doctor else itll only get worse n worse, until youre walking with a stick worse...:upyeah:

  17. Having a what?
