Cleaning and rust prevention

  1. Hi all,

So my 748 has spent her first winter with me tucked up my executive workshop (shed) that is far from 'waterproof' and although she is in great nick for her age I keep getting that "I'm sure that bolt/spring/nut/washer wasn't THAT furry.." feeling. Generally speaking the smaller bolts from Ducati are relatively cheap and easy to replace so I have changed most of the ones that looked particularly bad from when I bought the bike last year and from the winter storage.

I try to keep on top it all, but unfortunately neglected to put some ACF-50 on BEFORE winter storage believing it would be OK but next year I will certainly be applying it beforehand: hey-ho, live and learn..

Anyway, she had her first voyage of the year after the winter maintenance and storage last sunday which was great and I took her out again today but I noticed when I got back that the chain had started to rust slightly (even though I'm pretty good at oiling it etc) which has now made me paranoid about the 'orrible salt dust etc still on the roads.

By the way, on both occasions upon returning I gave her a cursory wipe down and a little ACF-50 on very exposed parts but have not washed her.

So, in my paranoia I have gone and bought some FS365 spray and new worth dry chain wax as I used it before on my monster and it was great but have been using cheapo stuff since (and won't be any longer - rusted chain!) and will be washing her hopefully on the weekend with a good scrub down and treatment. I must say though I'm not a fan of 'wet' washing the bike; don't know why - perhaps a fear of causing more harm than doing good.

My question is, how do you guys treat and look after your duc's to keep 'em looking good? :upyeah:

  2. haha, nice

wish that was an option for me, unfortunately no electricity in the shed currently (which is a sad affair really being that I am a qualified electrician , one of these weekends...)
