He's lying, but it's not something you can do yourself unless you've got a laptop and the right software, I don't think. Thankfully a very nice man of multistrada.net (and this forum I think) did mine for me. Try another dealer, yours obviously ain't interested.
Change dealer as if they cant be arsed to sort something like that then they dont deserve your custom.
Anth is the expert on this sorta stuff and I don't know the Multi, but I am pretty certain it can be reset using Ducatidiag, software is free you just register and then all you need to buy are 2 cables off flea bay. John
I'm sure the ecu on the Multi 1000 is the magneti marelli IAW 59M, but I can't remember off the top of my head when they changed to the Mitsubishi one. If it is the marelli one then it's about a 5 minute job to reset the TPS. Getting to the diagnostic connector on the 848/1098/1198 is the longest part of the job as it's behind the left hand fairing which is secured by what seams like 40,000 'quick release' bolts. Again if I remember rightly.....but I could be wrong the diagnostic connector on the old multi is under the seat, so should be easy. The software is free as John said, but on the IAW 59M doesn't need registering. Just the two cables from flee bay, which have crept up in price, but you'll still get change from 20 quid delivered. I can pm you the details of the cables if you need them.
That'll be it then.....under the side panel it is, you watch it will even have the Mitsubishi ecu too No I'm sure the older ones have the IAW 59M in them........ It's the streetfighter one that lives under the seat
Rule of thumb is pre 2004 then IAW59M ECU. Is it just a reset that needs doing or has the TPS gone faulty? If it's just a reset, then the info above is spot on. Either a dealer reset or use the freeware. It takes minutes. If the TPS has actually gone faulty, then yes, it's more difficult but not impossible by any stretch.
still not got it done the weathers been so bad but since suns come out need to get it done wont idle at all !
What exhaust have you got? My bike wouldn't tick over no matter what I did, but when I refitted the standard headers (I had a decat pipe fitted) the problem went away and the bike ticks over perfectly now. Turns out the motor was running much cooler with the decat pipe, and with the standard pipe it was running a good 10 degrees hotter, and seems to much prefer it.
Not familiar with your bike as such, but a long time ago i had tps issues on a 900ss,and that was after getting drenched riding for 2 days where it pissed down non stop. The problem turned out to be rusting on the tps connectors, very simple clean up had it all ship shape again, ship would have come in handy for those 2 days.Just a thought as it takes seconds to sort that out.
If the idle is the problem, it may have nothing to do with the TPS. The multi has a servo idle valve. That could be stuck, blocked, faulty or one of the pipes has split??
Don't worry it's probably a mistake, it's quite easy to catch one of the symbols on the right hand side while scroling on a mobile phone. Steve
