Looks like the gap between the stock bike and the S has widened? Not having the latest screen etc would put me off the base and the price will put me off the S.
I'm on the fence as to weather I like the new look or not, I know there just pictures and you cant judge until you see it in the flesh, but I cant help thinking it's less Ducati and more Honda? Some of the new features sound good but I hate to think how often you'll be claiming on the warranty? I do think it seems like a bit of over kill just to fix the phantom hazard light problem ;-)
It does seem a lot of Multi owners do lean towards a Honda in attempting to change the characteristics of the twin with regular trips to tuners. Ducati appear to have acknowledged this with the new engine.
I was thinking of the look of the new bike, but your right the variable valve engine dose shout out Honda, I just didn't hear it till now.
:Shifty: Well I have to be honest, I'm not that sure I like the styling changes that much and to pay what is likely to be such a premium for an update, I don't know..... Could be better to opt for a late 2014 early 2015 bike instead and then let the "inevitable" warranty recall issues get dealt with before taking a leap of faith?
Been away for a week so just catching up. I have to say, I think ducati have done a great job in answering a good number of items we wished for. If I hadn't replaced my bike earlier this year I would definitely be buying a new one. I'm trying to figure out if I can buy a new one anyway I like the led lights, enhanced abs, traction control and better stoppers. The blue tooth and phone prep is great too, as long as it works in an intuitive and reliable manner. I like the look of the new display too. definitely worth a trip to the dealer next year to check it out
Increased power Increased torque Better fuel consumption Better suspension Better lighting Better ABS Better traction control Better brake calipers Better display Better screen Cruise control This lot looks worth a few grand of anybody's money, surely. As for the styling - not sure, must see it in the flesh first.
Plus : Multi-level wheelie control, linked to riding modes Adjustable seat height, starting at 20mm lower than previous model More ground clearance, OK only 20mm but useful for bouncing up kerbs - sorry I mean climbing over rocks New pannier design - may be better you never know New power socket locations (one in the front fairing, one as before and a USB charging outlet under the seat) And it's available in white again - which I did want in 2010 but they'd dropped it in 2013. I wonder if : The new rear brake (265mm diameter, cf. 245mm before) works? The main stand still clanks into the cat when the rubber is burned away? The front brake hoses and cables still rub away at the fork leg? The main stand has to removed before the sump guard can be removed to do an oil change? The rear indicators still use bulbs and aren't LED? The number plate illumination bulb isn't LED, and is still a pain to replace? The chain still goes rusty after a ride in the rain? The fasteners corrode after a winters riding? I think I've convinced myself I'll upgrade sooner rather than later.
Don't forget the engine covers now seem to be finished in the same colour & surface finish as the new Monster. So shouldn't peel off after 6 months summer use! I wonder if the new clocks are made by the same company that made the water absorbent ones? They do remind me of a certain style of watch with that marked off area to the right of the display. Will certainly go to the NEC now and bounce up and down on one. :Clown:
I didn't mention this because I don't want a lower seat height. The old seat height is fine for me. I'm aware others have very different shortcomings than mine.
I have been telling myself that my 2012 S is perfect and I don't want a 2015 but I am starting to weaken.......Damn You Ducati.
While I was at Snell's of Alton, they explained to me something I had not realised - you don't need to remove the sump guard or the centre stand to do an oil change. Once you have undone the front sump guard fixing screws, you can pivot it down on the two rear screws. This leaves enough room to remove the sump drain plug and the filter. Did I feel stupid for failing to twig this!
I wonder if the "back lighting" on the handlebar switches can be switched off? If not, then it's out with the black felt tip pen Can't wait for the Owner's Manual and Spare Parts Catalog for the 2015 model to be released - watching the Maintenance section of the Ducati.com site.
I've been trying to work out the new handlebar switch arrangements: Indicator, horn and high beam/flash New, dedicated, single Menu button (replaces up / down / indicator cancel usage before) New, dedicated Cruise Control button Not sure what the red button on the top is - maybe hazard flasher? If so, has hardware won out over software I assume the red "slide" switch and "start/heated grips" switches work as before "Lock" button, for the steering lock? No sign of a dedicated heated grips switch that I can see, sorry. ----- I wonder if Ducati are going to release an updated version of the Dashboard simulator which they did for the 2010 model (a Windows Exe - which can be downloaded from Andy W's Info Pages).
All looks good, although I think the BMW twist ring is a real good control and simple to use. So is the display a dedicated lcd, or is it an xga a layout where it can be set to anything ? Sadly it looks like mounting positions for a sat nav are limited now :Angelic:
I might be a little bit excited! I've wanted a Multistrada for about four years ago but my little shot-arsed legs have kept me away from it. I'n looking forward to trying one out for size at the NEC this year...but someone needs to tell Ducati that they've forgotten the rear part of the front mudguard - all the muddy water spray coming off the front wheel isn't gonna help the life or looks of the radiator mesh sure;y?!...oh and one more thin that doesn't take my fancy, if Ducati think we all want to buy onto a Deep Vein Thrombosis, or DVT for short, who am I to argue?....I'm sure their marketing men know their job....
Total rubbish. If by the tuners you mean a remap it's to get rid of the EU inflicted roughness in the low end. What is meant by regular trips to the tuners? You only have to go once.
