996 Swarf/metal Flakes On Back Wheel

  1. The whole area is a sodding nightmare, I bought a used Golf recently, within a week I noticed a small oil leak.
I phoned the garage/dealer where I got the car, they weren't interested, "bought as seen and tested with warranty", I was told I should contact the warranty company.
They of course were most helpful and accommodating!
Firstly; any investigative time/work had to be covered by myself, even if the fault was eventually found to be covered under the terms of the warranty.
Secondly; the hourly rate payable by them was a joke! So even if the fault was covered I would have to make up the difference.
If the fault was found to be wear and tear....You can imagine how that conversation is going to go, then the whole cost would be payable by me.
So when Swiss Tony smiles at you reassuringly and says " the car comes with a warranty"....Don't fucking bother!
    Shark infested waters!

  2. Good luck proving that one to any warranty company!

  3. I took my Duke back 5 times (to my local non-Ducati dealer) for a clutch problem under warranty. one time when I went to pick it up I never even made it off the forecourt before the clutch failed again.

after having the basket/plates/mc & lines replaced under warranty, turned out to be the slave cylinder.

they've never bothered getting many Dukes in after that..

  4. wow... you are kind man. maybe you can help me to change belts on my 996?

  5. After reading OP and Nelsons shop buying experience in motor trade I will stick to buying private.I guess devils advocate could say if you purchase a bike with no service history from a shop you accept its sold as seen and the risk of it going tits up.I always thought you got a 28 day warranty and any problems would be fixed as bike needed to be fit for purpose when sold even if used.Doesnt really surprise me these warranties aint worth the paper they are written on but would have thought any faulty goods would see you legally entitled to a full refund.

Surely though if sold as seen they need to express this before purchase and I hope the price OP paid reflected this ie was a bargain.

If it was a real bargain then fair enough id take the money saved and book it in for a full monty service and pray for a nice phone call saying all is well inside the motor. If previous owner neglected simple things like side stand bolts lets hope they at least had the important stuff checked like alternator nut.

  6. Been watching this thread develop, fwiw the bike is 14 years old was sold in good faith and a cush drive failed, no big deal seller has agreed to make good, if it had been me and I was happy with the bike I would have agreed a refund with the seller replaced offending item with the Renthal one advertised by Tommy b which would have cured the problem for ever and pocketed the difference.

  7. I just hoped final drive would be checked along with stuff like brakes before a shop sells a used bike on regardless of age or mileage. Then a good clean you would think.Ive had the above done when purchasing secondhand pedal bikes from shops never mind superbikes.

Oh look whats that ?.Swarf all around the swingarm and hub area. That cant be right.Im sure my mechanical training covered this.Lets make sure its right before it goes out.Bingo happy customer.

I guess I would now rather buy a used ducati from a forum member or long term keeper that has looked after it well and kept all the service receipts instead of a bike shop.If I buy one from a shop and it starts falling apart on the way home only to be told its 14 yrs old mate I would get rather upset about the whole situation.

Im surprised about the signing of disclaimer also for fitting of JT sprocket.I didn't have to sign anything at Ducati when they replaced worn bucci sprockets or when I had it all replaced with renthal kit.

  8. LOL yev, that is one job I have yet to tackle myself, as the rebuild cost on a SPS engine (if it could be fixed) far out weight the cost of getting Geoff Baines to do it for me.

  9. I've recently been knocked off my bike and bought a £500 car from a tiny car yard. The guy was happy to sell me some Vauxhall until I said, if any lights come on the dash while I'm driving it home I'll turn around and put it straight through the front of his shop, light heartedly but honest. He then pointed me to a focus which I've had no trouble with. Sometimes being, or showing you will be, a real pain in the arse is the only way to get good service from a bad supplier. I do hope you get all your problems sorted and get to enjoy Ducati ownership.

  10. Pick her up Saturday.

Will fill you all in on the details when I have her nicely tucked away in the garage and all the payments to/from the various parties have been settled.

Martin, fancy me buying you a cup of tea at OYB Saturday?

  11. I would but I have to take the other halfs car in to have new tyres fitted.

  12. Have you booked on line first, much cheaper that way.

  13. It's almost rude the difference it makes.

  14. I know. I have just put new tyre on my passat cc and I saved a packet

  15. For my old A3 it was £50 per tyre cheaper to phone before I went rather than just rock up.

  16. All sorted?

  17. ....................

  18. Morse?

  19. :)
watch this space, not quite there yet.
