Hello all. My new to me 748r has got quite a few stone chips that have been touched up. You can only see them a certain angles but they are bugging me. Could a bodyshop smooth these away before respraying to look like new or are they something i will have to live with. If its possible to fix can anyone recommend a company in the east midlands / Nottinghamshire area. I know i sound like a right muppet but i have never need plastics sorting on a bike before. Steve
No reason why it can't be made good as new, as long as you get a reasonable body shop, our mini had a lot of stone chips on the from spoiler, so I took it off and gave it to our local "good" paint shop and he filled and resprayed so that it was as good as new and I'm really fussy, you do have to be a little careful as he says what ever it is they use to "fill" with can sink a little when it dries so it may need a few goes. Cant advise anyone around Notts I'm afraid
Ive used rage designs for painting my carbon fuel tank. To be honest I wouldn't bother with nose fairing as it will just get chipped again unless going for venture shield etc type products after paint.
I use a guy called "paint by Dave" in Derby. He's very good and know Ducati parts pretty well now. If you give him a shout tell him Tom Beckett recommended him..will sort you out. Tom
Any good body shop could do it. And while not in your area I too know someone who would get it 'as new'. But first new chip you get will really piss you off. As cream says, stick a number board on, cheaper and looks better in my opinion.
Racepaint of Nottingham: 15 Great Northern Rd, Nottingham NG16 3PD A mate had his SP1 touched up there, he got a good deal but bartered hard. They also did a Biaggi scheme on my Aprilia before I bought it and the finish is outstanding.
Colour match is always more of a problem on a Yellow bike than a Red one as the shades seem to vary more in Yellow. The repair is easy enough but may (probably) mean a respray of the whole part. You would need to know whoever you entrust with this work will get a good match. The part will need re-lacquering to do the job properly so it's not going to be that cheap a fix. As others have mentioned you need to decide what it's worth getting it the way you want.
~To be fair colour match on Yellow is the easiest as all the panels are a different colour anyway from the factory so you don't need to match
