1200 Do I Need Fatducs On My 2014 Decat

  1. If he makes a choice only based on yours and others comments, when you havent the experience to know what actually happens with some of these gizmos, good luck to him. There are tuners other than Chris who can map a bike

  2. Seems strange that a 2014 bike doesn't run well. With a LV decat and end can my 2012 single spark bike ran better without any tuning. Once Chris had done the remap it was much better again.
A couple of things that Chris mentioned was the inefficiency of the Mivv decat compared to the LV and, possibly more relevant, is the fact that the throttle bodies were miles out of synch. He put these right as part of the tune and I'm just wondering if this could be the problem for WWW?
I'd certainly be looking at getting the throttle bodies synched before I splashed out on anything else.

  3. Even though I am quiet, I am reading and taking note. Thank you.

  4. Interesting development.

Just checked the air bleed screws. Front about 1/16 of a turn from fully closed. Rear, fully closed.

Not had chance to do anything about adjusting them just yet but it seems slightly odd.

  5. I'm not sure about the twin spark, as if I remember correctly Chris said something about putting a large ball bearing into a tube to block the bleed to the exhaust?

On the single spark engine I do know that the air screws are COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. With explicit instructions to make sure anyone who performs a service on the bike afterwards, should not adjust the air bleed screws.
He deals with all the issues in software during the remap.

As others have suggested and I have to agree my twin spark is much better low down (smoother, less stumble) than my unmodified single spark, which imho was unrideable.
The decat (and getting rid of the exhaust servo) together with FAT DUCs was a massive improvement over standard.
Having it remapped a few months later made me fall in love with the machine all over again.

  6. The blocking of the air bleed Chris mentioned is so the exhaust gases can be read accurately without being diluted by fresh air.
To the OP..... If Winchester is closer you have Moto Rapido that are fully capable of mapping your bike.

As for options..... A full, bespoke remap is obviously the best route and one by Chris is as good as you'll get. Chris has helped me out setting up the service at my place and while it's the best option, there are others available. It's a balance of cost vs. results for many people, and also convenience. I've taken on the RexXer tooling recently and that's proved very popular with good results. I can also do a postal service using their equipment and for some that's worked really well. They're not bespoke maps but are well written generic ones, that are matched to various options of exhaust etc. Maybe 90 even maybe 95% as good in some cases for half the money.
I'm still doing power commander as well as the option to remove the unit when the bike is sold, for instance, is also what some people want....
It's horses for courses. There are plenty of options, some ultimately not as good as others but there is a choice depending on what you want and how much you want to spend.
Btw, I've heard nothing that good about fat ducs or such like. I tried a variation from another source on my monster with a view to selling them and wasn't that impressed.

  7. A big thanks to everyone for their input and thoughts, it is much appreciated I assure you.

Plenty of food for thought for me and I am weighing up my options.

  8. Btw Nelly is CornersPeed, Ducati specialist dealer, and knows what he's talking about having experience as well as reasearch ;)

Oh and its his business to get it right. :upyeah:

  9. I can't comment on the Twin spark but after the heads were replaced on my single spark it was just horrible at low revs (much worse than before), Fac Ducs made a huge improvement in this case...

  10. As ACT has commented on, Fatducs do not work correctly on the twin spark. I got hold of some prior to a remap at CJS and had to take them off within 5 mins, they made the bike run infinitely worse.

  11. Fuelling on my 12,000-mile unmolested 13S is impeccable. Ducati know a thing or two about making motorcycles, but obviously learned from the low-speed fuelling issues many on here experienced with the 2010 model. Problems often arise, however, when exhausts/air boxes are changed or modified, making the service of firms such as CJS invaluable. Guess we just have to accept that. Just saying!

  12. As an addendum to that, I'd be interested to learn whether remapping by CJS has substantially the engine performance of anyone's 13/14 model MTS and if so how. Thanks.

  13. Gains are not as big as the 10-12 . I got to 144 at the wheel (LV decat and can + DP filter)so up around 10bhp which is certainly noticeable. What you do come away with regardless is a curve of smoothness all the way up. These bikes do run very lean as standard. I recall comments from Chris around most of the adjustment being around the spark mapping rather than fueling on the 2013+, which would possibly explain why fatducs don't fair very well.

  14. I'm a bit confused as to why you chose a bike so suited to long-distance riding as an MTS if you think it's a long ride from Ramsgate to Bristol - but each to his own. And the more multi converts the better, I suppose!

  15. Harsh!

  16. Firstly, I do not consider the MTS particularly suited to long distance travel, though in fairness a couple of hundred miles is no big deal.

More importantly, riding to Bristol, via M2,M20,M26,M25 and M4, then doing it all again in one day is not my idea of fun, no matter what the prize.

I don't think I would do that if there was a free MTS at the end of it.

  17. Wow...you must have ridden some really comfy bikes in your time.
Most weekends I do that distance, no issue and I love my Mutley.

  18. I find the MTS comfy enough for about 220 miles but that's my limit on it.

The prospect of leaving home at 05:30, riding 200 UK motorway miles, twiddling my thumbs all day and then riding back is not appealing.

  19. The results are worth it, does anyone live close for you to test ride a tuned bike, it has transformed mine beyond recognition (2010 model)

  20. I wouldn't argue that the results would be great. If it was summer time I might feel different, though to be honest I will have changed bikes twice by then

I've had a few emails back and forth with Chris on the subject and he is superbly efficient with his communication so I get the feeling he is super competent all round. I wish he was closer, I really do.

On balance I can see me just having to live with it until I man up and get down there.
