Your mistake was to say a Vespa. Had you stated it was a Lambretta then you would have some substance to your claim. However Vespas are relentlessly reliable and would easily make it to Alpha Centauri.
Correct. For purposes of illustration, the need for a massive energy-source is disregarded, as is the need to accelerate and decelerate the spaceship. This is not a plan for a mission, it's a way of explaining a concept.
or at least it will continue to flow as 'normal'. True, but it was still funny. Technically "Coz times different in space, right when you go tae space time slows doon" is incorrect because it is not he act of being in space that slows time down it is the velocity difference between different frames of reference. My father once said that in space there was no gravity, and if you look at pictures from the ISS that does appear to be the case, only that would be an incorrect interpretation; he never did understand science.
True, but could an ant crawling on the Empire State Building understand the true nature of that building ?
Pete - You STILL have not answered my point. You argue about the meaning of particular words and the semantics but still cannot answer... To be clear - I am not asking you to prove anything. I am merely asking that you accept the idea that it is just possible that you are wrong. However small that possibility might be... You make an assertion and expect other to believe it and when asked why they should believe it your only answer is "because I am right". Other people say that there is a god - and your argument is that there can't be because they can't prove it. You say that there is no god, and yet when anyone asks you to prove it you say that you don't have to because you are right. Can you not see the double standard? Surely it should be the same rules for all ? Purely by coincidece I saw Brian Cox on Newsnight last night. When Evan Davies asked him what he thought about the existance of god he said "it's important to accept that you just don't know". Even the trendy, brainy, geeky proffesor bloke off the telly agrees with me ! Why do you find it so hard to accept even the tiniest possibility that you might, just might, be wrong ?
No because an Ant does not think and has no sense of self. We do. Therefore we developed science to make sense of what we see around us. Nice idea that though.
The scale of human beings on planet Earth is comparable to the scale of an ant on a big building. Are humans able to understand the nature of the Earth? Well, there's a lot we know and a lot we don't know but it would be a huge stretch to say that there are things we (and our descendants) are forever incapable of knowing.
"an exceptionally gifted person, a genius, moves thought into new and uncharted territory" The sort of person who does not accept that an idea is right just because someone else says so ? By... and this is the key part... accepting that the original ideas might just be..... wrong !
So why can't the answer be Boobies? Something may well exist that could be construed as God - but one thing for sure is that it will not be remotely what all the Earth Religions think it is - and won't give a toss what each of us is doing during our lives. It will be more of a phenomena than a fairy tail and related to a more Scientific explanation, weather it be our science or yet unknown. Until we know I think the most probable is that the Universe revolves around Boobies, mine does at least and it is a happy place
It isn't a question of scale, it is a question of mental capacity. Does the ant have the capability to understand the ESB ?
Does this thread have an end - I just checked and it appears to have a beginning, with loads of stuff emanating out of it, is this thread a universe in itself and is Chizel a Klingon?
"Well, there's a lot we know and a lot we don't know but it would be a huge stretch to say that there are things we (and our descendants) are forever incapable of knowing." Why ? I would argue that it is a huge stretch to say that the human mind will ever be able to understand everything about the universe in all its glory. And, if you ever could know everything, what would you do then? Surely life would be very boring if you knew everything about everything and there was nothing left to learn ?
To be fair Pete JR45 has clearly stated that he doesn't believe in a god, only he accepts there is a tiny possibility he might be wrong because he cannot prove there is no god.
Someone take my posts seriously as they are very considered and probably true and may well be the answer you are all looking for, you blind sheep
"Why don't you?" Pete - go back and read my posts properly - I do accept that I might be wrong and have stated as much several times... I have even said "Pete might be right"...
There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don't know we don't know. - Donal Rumsfeld quote which is oddly intuitive for a politician
