I met Barry Sheene couple of times when I was a youngster, he used to stop at our local shops only lived a couple of miles up the road from me back then
Good programme with some interesting footage and comments. Amazed at the size of the RG500 square 4 engine and it revived memories of a bike I suspect few modern MotoGP riders would be able to ride today. Shame it had to be presented by Jim Moir who added nothing for me. Andy
It was mildly interesting. Steve Parrish gives more of an insight to what went on behind the scenes on his tour.
I spoke to Steve Parrish a few years ago. He said he was having problems with his bike and was struggling to qualify for one gp or another, so Sheene pulled on Parrish's leathers and stuck in a qualifying lap for him. That doesn't sound like the hard-nosed, self-obsessed bastard that last night's show protrayed him as...
Of course he was hard nosed and self obsessed. All champions are. Doesnt mean they cant be caring, sharing peolpe too.
was this a one off or are there more to follow,, and who are they featuring ?,, James, Collin , Joey , anyone heard ?
It is a series of 3 but who is being covered I have no clue Its getting repeated 4th Jan 22:45, if you don't have i Player
Programmes about Graham Hill & John Surtees are lined up, but I don't know when they will be screened: Racing Legends On Tv | Ducati Forum Sport On The Box ยป Racing Legends: Series 2 set to air on BBC Two
It's the other way around - Parrish put on Sheene's leathers and did a qualifying lap for him: http://www.meltontheatre.co.uk/steve-parrish-13-1 OK, who IS Steve Parrish? - Half of My Life - Phil Hall's Motorcycling etc
I saw this last night - having recorded it. It was interesting, but it could have been a lot more interesting. I've never been a Vic Reeves fan. Nothing against the guy (not that I ever found him very funny) but nothing much for him either. He wasn't a particularly interesting commentator and it was a bit of a pity, with his very limited talent, to get him to ride the works GP Bazza bike. They missed a trick here, because Parrish and Sheene were mates, Parrish would have had no end of interesting stories to tell, he's highly likeable and a great raconteur, perfectly capable of carrying the show, and getting him to ride the bike would have been a lot more entertaining.
who / what is Vic Rees anyway ,, cant say I know him at all , although he came across as a bit of an enthusiast he didn't seem to know much.
