....I can't find it.........Engine off. If I rock the bike gently sideways or gently bounce on the seat while sitting on it (not allowing forward or rearward motion), I can hear a faint single knock.......sounds like pads against the disc or caliper.... I have checked the rear shock mounts..... AOK Checked the swingarm bearings......nothing there.... Checked rear caliper / pads......OK Engine to frame bolts....all tight It seems to come from the back of the engine but further forward than the swingarm....yet when I listen again it seems to come from the rear wheel (new bearings and cush drive bushes) Oddly it's loud enough to expect to be able to feel it, but I can't feel anything...even stuck my fingers through the shock spring to see if it's the rod...... Any ideas? AL.
AL..... Try not to bounce on the seat or rock it from side to side with the engine off....it'll be fine, your just being too much a perfectionist!
Its now on a rear paddock stand with the seat off..... .....push down on the frame at the rear....clonk.....lift up......clonk.....but it doesn't appear to be the rear shock....or at least I can't feel it in the shock or the spring when it does it. The sound is definitely coming from around mid-way to rear of the bike (listen on the left and it seems to be at the rear of the engine; listen on the right and it seems to be around the rear mudguard / rear wheel).........no play in anything from what I can see. I think I'll go and clean something instead. AL.
If it has a ride height adjuster have a look at the rose joints one could be stiff or on its way to seizing up. brian.
No ride height on this SS...or if there is, someone tell me where it is, so I can get my feet on the ground...... Can't find play in nuffink ennywhere (been watching Del & Rodney)...... AL
Check the engine mounts. The rear especially can loosen off. Had bikes failed MOT for suspension wear when it's been the rear mount......
Done that...one of the first things I looked at........And I can't see or feel movement in anything other than the rear shock working just for the very small amount of pressure I apply either up or down......I'm wondering if it is the shock spring on it's seats, but again, I can't actually feel the 'knock' with my hand, I'm just hearing it. I wonder if the shock mount bolts have worn where the bushes rotate on them....although I would expect to see and feel that as well as hear it. AL.
It isn't that, Brian......It's coming from lower than the tank and even with a full tank, I can make the noise happen without sloshing the fuel.....It only needs a tiny push down while there is no weight on the bike... If I push down harder, the shock is working fine and it doesn't make the noise until I push down again..... AL
Don't have one.....I have the silly plate that is held in place by the swingarm stud thingy....No movement there, whether on the paddock stand or on the floor. AL
