Can this done? New members can post, but only into a new section called "sandbox" until at least their initial post is checked (by a staff member) to see if they are real motorcyclists? Only once the initial post has been checked, then allow them full posting rights? This would weed out the bots that join and then spam. Don't want to put off new members, but...something has to be done.
A much easier way would be to have a captcha that's how most sites avoid bots. So the first time a newbie posts they have to fill in a captcha after that their free to post whenever.
At present, as soon as you register (complete the process) you can post. This means bots can register, then post spam. For example selling their bike safe or Air Con.
I hadnt seen that. Surely its fairly easy to get rid of and most are good at using the downvote to get rid of this. The admin then comes along and gets rid of them pretty quickly. Seems like a drastic and draconian solution to a small problem which isnt going to encourage new members and which will increase the amount of admin our volunteer admins do
Bring back slave labour. If the admin don't sort it out in 5mins whip 'em. Saying that think a few of them might enjoy it
It has been looked at but I believe it was difficult to do. I will look into it again. In the meantime just let me know when something crops up and point me to the post and I will ban the poster.
