  1. baker hollywood on Surtees...hes got a tdy Ducat aswell.

  2. Well caught it a bit late but just watched the john surtees programme on BBC2

Legend is often used out of context but with this gentleman it's possibly an understatement.

Unmatched achievements and comes across as a real nice fella, should get a knighthood

If you missed it get on catch up, well worth it

  3. I knew he had achieved much but I didn't appreciate just how much; and such a nice guy.

    Give that man a Knighthood.

  7. It's maddening that celebrity culture is thought to necessitate some B-list intermediary on these programmes. I wish we could simply have a well-produced documentary without the drooling comedian/actor/baker...

  8. the hero worship did make me cringe a bit at times .

  9. Just watched it, a good programme which really did highlight how good and unassuming he was. Some aspects I was not aware of such as his problems whilst at Ferrari and it seems that he could have been greater if things had worked out better there and he continued to race for them.

I vaguely remember the accident involving his son when it happened, clearly a very sad time for him.

He definitely deserves to be recognised for what he has done for motorsport over the years and his charity work.

  10. Paul Hollywood is quite a keen Ducati fan and also most other things Italian, he also drives a Maserati. But I do agree they could have found someone better to undertake the presentation. If anything has let this series down it has been the presentation and those that have been chosen to do the job.

I thought Mat Oxley might have been a better choice seeing he was actually in the programme and he is a motorcycling journalist.

  11. I was puzzled by the Racing Legend 'George Clooney lookalike', because I have never come across him in all the years I followed racing............

......but the old boy is a great example of racing history.

  12. He drives an Aston.

The problem is that if Mat Oxley or some other journo had presented the program, a lot of people would either not have watched or been put off by the unknown face.

The idea of getting well known presenters to do the series was that they were recognisable faces that would attract a diverse crowd of non-motorsport fans and educate them on this great sport. It also shows another side to the presenters that you didn't know, and the hero worship is part of that - "You might think I'm great, but this guy is my hero!"

Don't knock the series for trying to bring motorsport to the masses. Big names attract a better viewing slot and more viewers and that helps to get more programs on the subjects we like.

  13. Well, I know who George Clooney is, but where the hell did Paul Hollywood spring from?

As far as I can tell, he mucks around with a bit of flour now and then.

  14. Joint judge in The Great British bakeoff is his current claim to fame, that and his affair in 2013 with the US bakeoff judge!!!!

"Hollywood is facing the wrath of an unforgiving public amid rumours he left his wife for Marcela Valladolid, 34, a co-star on the US version of the BBC show"

  15. Z list, then.

  16. John Surtees - living legend !
The only person - ever - to be world champion on two wheels and on four.
And, a genuine, humble guy too...
Why he has never been given a knighthood is beyond me !
