  1. Fox News is just about the most embarrassing propaganda machine this side of North Korea.
    Avoid.

  2. I was posting it due to poor journalism which will lead to poor judgements being made about Europe and the UK, which will lead the typical tea party voter to think that Europe is already under the control of the lunatics.
Conversely I see the American military have had their twitter feed hacked by IS.
Not everything is a personal challenge mr reporter man.
    Oh and :Banghead:

  3. I though the Panorama program was quite encouraging, at least the problem of non-violent extremism is being talked about. Forging a new Islam was being addressed but whether it is gaining much traction who knows. The guy from the Muslim Council of Britain was depressingly predictable.

Worth watching on iPlayer if you missed it.

  4. And over to nigel.
BBC News - UKIP's Nigel Farage urges 'Judeo-Christian' defence after Paris attacks
He is only repeating what he had previously said, however his statements in light of the attack will no doubt have far more resonance.
My concern is that whilst we need to have a realistic debate and then response to concerns raised not only on here but in public in general, that we do not have an absolute right wing backlash.

  5. I have to say I would never watch it and it frightens me that for many Americans it is their main source of news. It makes you realise how lucky we are that our broadcasters are obliged to be so much more even handed. Our newspapers are also much better, by the way, though they have the freedom to be as partisan as American broadcasters. Actually I don't think any country has as wide a range of papers. Even the good old Morning Star survives somehow. Before anyone starts complaining, if there were sufficient demand from the hand-wringing community, or the advertisers who make publishing profitable, for a mass market liberal-leftie newspaper, you can be sure Murdoch or some other entrepreneur with deep pockets would be on it in a flash. People always say they want such newspapers but there is no tangible evidence one would succeed. The incredibly worthy News on Sunday, which launched in the Eighties, lasted about eight months because people quickly tired of its diet of trade union news and left-wing propaganda and stopped buying it. Interestingly, Sunday Sport launched at about the same time and is still going strong. They probably bought that instead! Joking aside, you can see where the British working class's preferences lie and it's not with left-leaning newspapers. The Sun easily outsells the Mirror, for example, the Telegraph and Times smash the Guardian for sales and the Independent, where I've worked, is just an also ran. How does the song go ... the public gets what the public wants ??

  6. Please respect the fact that some people on here are a bit stupid and explain yourself more clearly in future, especially where slow_twin is concerned :)

  7. I'm not a reporter. I'm further up the food chain. It was appalling reporting and I've dealt with that in my response.

  8. Oh dam, he's still awake :Hilarious:

  9. I just like words to make clear what is intended. Reading between the lines or guessing what someone intends to say inevitably leads to confusion and errors. It's not too much to ask. If you look at some of the posts in this discussion you'll see that they are at best rambling and lack coherence and at worst unintelligible. But you're not the worst offender. And you're from Yorkshire, Elsie, so you have a ready-made excuse.

  10. Zzzzzzzzzz you're the best cute for insomnia I've ever known.

  12. You cute too, but don't be thinking about me in the shower :Wideyed:

  13. Or should I have read behind the words :)

  14. I do so love this every time he admonishes someone for being irrelevant stupid uninformed illiterate etc he makes a mistake himself. Karma man karma.

  15. Oh, so he don't think me cute then, I find that hard to believe  he's given up for the evening :Cigar:

  16. Third from last sentence. Two "and"s and a fog index value that makes a medical paper look like The Sun.

  17. Really wanted to thank you for this link. I have been looking at a few of these debates on YouTube and they are superb: really interesting and well-moderated, exactly the sort of thing I was hoping to see.
I wonder why I have never heard of the show - I look at the Beeb frequently (like just about every day).
    Cheers!

  18. You cute ... What's that about making mistakes when you're admonishing someone? Typos happen to everyone. Even you Elsie. I was laying down in the dark typing on a tiny phone touchscreen, as I am now. It would be amazing if they didn't. My posts are USUALLY syntactically superior to most on here because it's my job, however. Simple. How many pieces of written work have you had published, remind me? I've have had thousands in a 35-year career.

  19. I have no idea what you're talking about - do you? Why can't you have two ands in a sentence, pray tell? Fog index value?
