Who To Go To For Lightweight Pistons & Con Rod Supply ?

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Noods, Jan 16, 2015.

  1. I need some lightweight pistons and con rods for my 796... 2 valve..

Any advice where to go pls..

To get the max taken off my crank in the knife edge and balance process it's needs to be paired up with light weight rods and pistons...

    Many thanks

  2. Speak to John Burrows at Ducati Coventry.

  3. Motorapido, if anyone can get them, they can. Or can point you at a source if abroad.

  4. After reading your post I had a browse through the Pistal and Pankl web sites as the two most common manufacturers of that type of kit that sprung to mind. Unfortunately neither seem to offer an off the shelf solution for you although that could just be my poor Italian. Not the best news and I'm sorry it is negetive but it may be that what you are looking for is so specialised there isn't an off the shelf solution. I tried :). Andy

  5. why do you want to do that? What are you going to achieve? or what are you trying to achieve?

can you not just put a 1100 in there......seems logical to me thats the way to go.....and cheaper more reliable..

  6. Hope you got deep pockets then, why not go Titanuim rods if you want to throw some serious money at it?

  7. To burst the bubble on yet another ducati smaller engine versus bigger engine fallacy, according to Ducati web site a 2011 monster 796 abs and a 1100 both weigh the same..........

  8. was just a guess - not like getting a wheelbase wrong was it? ;)

  9. ah guessing.....

  10. I just found 187kg v. 188kg in one of the specs which qualifies as lighter - think we should call you andy'nitpick'b

  11. whatever - not the first time i've been wrong and happy to admit to it unlike others

  12. its all about the learning experience...;):)

  13. how long would you like this to run andy love? I can find the (I thought hilarious) post where you indignantly ask what all the fuss is about claiming with authority that two bikes are the same but forgetting small details like wheelbase etc? :) there are others also ;)

  14. Or the other post where its really funny challenging your obsession to have the last word....

  15. I could understand if things had got that infantile re: last word but I thought we were talking about getting facts right and then admitting when you are wrong - do you ever admit when you're wrong andy or do you take your work (and hence your indelibly-stamped training) home with you?

Sorry to go so far off topic O.P. my last post on this thread.

  16. If peolpe only ever replaced small with bigger, where would engineering intelligence and practice come from?

  17. last word then?

You were actually talking about the weight of a monster 796 being more nimble than a bigger engine version because its a "slightly lighter bike" and i merely pointed out that according to Ducati the weights are quoted as being the same.
You then decided to go off on one because in this instance YOU were wrong, looking to include others i.e. me in your defence that they could be wrong too.

You then got infantile with the andy'nitpick'b comment,... when ironically nitpicking a weight difference, and we are talking what a full tank versus a half empty tank, whether you have had lunch or not had lunch, whether you is a fuller figure or not, would really be an influential part of the decision making process to spend thousands on knife edging, ti rods and lightened pistons let alone the blueprint build cost to make all those parts work was the inference of where you were coming from.

I dont really care what the OP does with his bike, its his bike, each to their own, but if its power he is after then id start with at least a 1100 engine and spend the money on that probably keeping my original engine to return back to the bike one day.

  18. If it was to race in a particular series that was working to a set of rules i understand that, but to spend a fortune on what is, lets face it a lame duck to begin with doesn't make sense to me. When you are going to go to the lengths of knife edging and ti parts you might as well give yourself a good starting point to which you could still do all the above if you really wanted for engineering intelligence and practice!

    ok I'm done.
