Anyone here got a E320 cdi. I'm looking to replace my old street banger E240, 190k miles Petrol for something a bit newer. Like all mercs I know they are expensive to repair if the engine or gearbox goes wrong, but are they as bullet proof as my old e240? How much is the servicing. Just any owner advice or feedback please. I'd like a 80k 2004 fully loaded with full merc history
That's very specific. Have you looked at other marques Audi A6 3.0TDI or BMW 530d. Mrs C has just gone from an Audi to Benz... Nice as it is I cant see it lasting its 2 year planned stint to be honest.
Cranker has a very valid point. I've driven Mercs for the last 15 years. The 320 didn't have most of the issues the 270 in the E class did but any issue costs. B service is about £600 and the mileage between services depends on which of the 2 oils they use. I've just moved my C270 on to a specialist garage as spares. 2004, 160,000 miles and the electronic board in the gearbox failed. Repair estimate was £1700. The alarm horn failed and drained the battery, £200 for the battery and £170 for the alarm horn and it goes on. The parking brake foot mechanism failed, parts and labour was £350. Service history is no guarantee, mine was serviced every 12 months by the supplying garage where in the last few years, the quality of work varied. Cheeky bastards said one failed component had been bodged and the car had only ever been worked on by them which left them very red faced. Buying a high mileage Merc is no longer the value it used to be. I now have a VW, sorry Seat which I am very pleased with. Andy
These are very nice, but we already have 5 newish vehicles, this is for taking the rubbish to the dump etc. I was hoping for £3-4k not + £13k
Only that we've loved the private ambulance as we call her. My brother has the Audi and BMW is not for me. Around here the Merc disappears into all the others parked on the street. We don't have enough room in the yard to keep the merc on site.
How much rubbish do you take to the dump then? Buying an old high milage car just for crap duties beats me for cheap car ownership? Surely hiring a skip every year is much cheaper?
Paul, in all honesty, if you are looking for a skip, that sort of money won't guarantee reliability from a Merc. Try something like a Passat. Andy
Are you disposing of commercial waste via householders car instead of paying proper rates then? If so then get a proper license then and stop wasting tax payers rates to subsidise your disposal costs
I have the choice of a new Audi A3 or a Merc A Class........ There is something about the Merc badge on your driveway even if the Audi is laid out better inside...
An 18 year old Ducati marks me as a fashion victim? Bloody hell.............I just spent £82 getting five pairs of Levis and a Levi denim jacket repaired rather then buy a new pair of Levis..... ....that's 'cos none of you buggers will buy any of my paintings....
Snobbery is something that a real man can ignore who has money. I know many friends who have serious cash and drive cars worth nothing, as a car has no investment qualities compared to properties and other commodities
