When I stripped all the bling off my 848 last year to sell it I made £5k roughly selling the bits on. So guess how much I'd spent originally. I won't be doing that again I lost more on mods than on deprieciation of the bike over 4 years.
I must confess some stuff I keep some stuff I don't. Id rather not as ive only got so much space in the garage, I do have a box with all the bits and pieces from both the RSV4 and the hyper but when and if either of them go ill sell them as is as the way I see it all the extra stuff just makes it sell that bit quicker....which essentially when you want to get rid of bike that's what you want....
we don't own a single vehicle that i haven't personalised! Can't help myself. wish i didn't care about cars and bikes sometimes. no chav shite, either performance upgrades or subtle, classy stuff. i do regret it until i get a nice comment, then it makes it better...my kids will do alright at a comprehensive rather than eaton!
To sort of answer the original question: A bike like a Panigale is a toy. No one needs one. So the price is pretty arbitrary - it's the price you are prepared to pay and it's not cheap. But if you have the cash, why not? It's all relative. So spending a fortune on adding things falls exactly into the same category. It's more toys for more cash. Just so long as you don't think it's an investment, but just fun, why not? What I find pretty dim is people who buy a top of the range bike, spend a shedload on bling, ride it 300 miles and then sell it and buy something else and repeat. At the end of the day, it's no skin off my nose. It's all helping small bling manufacturers and the owners clearly get more of a buzz out of buying and owning than they do out of riding. Who am I to tell them that is wrong? Money is so relative. When you don't have any, then everything looks expensive. When you do, everything looks like value for money. You'd have to be quite rich to spend £150 on a filler cap, but if you are, why not? It's certainly not worth feeling guilty about, or we can all start.
Yep glid...i agree...i dont think i would have spent on mine if i wasnt planning on keeping them....just to add to this conversation....for me, for the last 25 years ive owned one bike....but 2 years go i got a second, and, last year a third.....when i owned one bike...i always found what i had, i always wanted what the other lad had....as soon as i got the second, i stopped looking. The third i didnt need but wanted a project....something to spend my time on...a hobby... (its still a work in progress). And that goes for right now....theres loads of bikes that are nice...i just dont really want any of them....its bloke logic but it kind of works...for me anyway...stops me buying more bikes...or buying and selling....roll on next week when the new stainless headers turn up for the hyper!
Glid I am far from rich, I have to work for a living and be careful with my money to a certain extent, but I am now at an age where I think feck I can't take it with me so might as well enjoy it. Between my 2 bikes I managed approx 10,500 miles last year not as many as some people do but a damn site more than quite a few people I know. One mate has a really nice R1 I think he has covered 1400 miles in 3yrs to me that's a waste.
Yep. Same here. Definately not rich, dont drink, dont smoke, dont go out as such....bikes is where its at for me...! Id rather spend my hard earned on eg a front section for the hyper whereas some mates of mine will blow 300 down town in a night and have nothing to show but a hangover for it....its all about what you value, and your priorities...id rather have something to show for it!
I like to think I spend money on functional / performance items, rather than just pure bling, but it's still pretty hard to justify the £400 I spent over a year ago on some 30mm-offset triples which I haven't even fitted yet. I also doubt very much I will even notice the difference once I do fit them... Come to think of it, that's probably why I haven't got around to it yet! :Facepalm:
I smoke, have the occasional drink, get out with a couple of me neighbours once a month for a meal or cinema last of the big spenders lol
Ive have swapped a lot of the standard parts on my bike.The best way for resale value is to buy bargains via forums or fleabay.I got my ohlins r&t forks ,EVR carbon airbox ,STM slipper clutch etc etc all this way and saved a fortune. I like some of the anodized stuff depending on colour (not a big fan of gold) but with 4k to spend id be seriously tempted by some lighter wheels either forged marchesinis or carbon Dymag/BST.Or maybe the king of bling NCR as they do some very nice yokes,clip ons ,sub frames etc.
I've gone off the idea of bling. At one time I was convinced my SF needing dipping in a vat of Rizoma trinketry to make it perfect but I'm over that. I now prefer to spend money on go rather than show. The only cosmetic bits I plan to change are the Micky Mouse ear mirrors and the white plastic reservoirs. But the latter will replaced with something understated in black. I'm afraid I've come to think all this brightly coloured anodised stuff has a whiff of the boutique about it and looks a teensy bit kitch.
Slipper clutch is already fitted to 1199s so not got to buy one, as for bling I don't do Gold either. Oh I get forged wheels too. Have you seen the CNC top yoke they do for the 1199 looks right nice.
Forgot the S models come with lots of nice stuff like forged wheels as OE.Seriously if you have 4k to blow check out NCR billet adjustable yokes, titanium clip ons, rearsets and sub frames.Or for a less eye watering price list try sites like Moto corse as they do some of the nicest alloy bling and sent out from San Marino so quick to arrive.
