I would get it out sooner rather that later regardless of the effort. Have seen similar in the past on a watercooled generator with a cast heat exchange unit. Casting was over 10mm thick, but a small bolt inadvertently dropped inside, just vibrated away in the same spot for ages and eventually wore its way through. Not a lot of material thickness in a tank, so could fret through in quite a short space of time if it stays in the same place rattling away.
Yup = good point - might have another go later on with the magnetty thing....problem is, is you can see where its going...ill have another crack at it though...
Try a magnet from the outside you could have hours of fun. Wrap it in thin cotton so it doesn't scratch anything. Start at the bottom and see if you can move it to a point where you can see it throught the filler. It's not stainless is it?
No - definitely mild steel but as with most tanks these days its a weird and wonderful shape....ie you look in the tank and an inch below is the bottom of the tank (at that point) going out in the garage in a bit to have a go....
I know Halfords do a magnet with a torch on it, hmm maybe not a good idea sticking that in a petrol tank with batteries in it Personally go ride it see it if makes any difference, chances are it will do no damage at all Will it rust though? and cause bits to clog up in the long term? Sell it?
well, id rather not sell it - if it did cause a problem that's not the sort of thing I could consciously sell on.... Remind me not to buy a bike off of you in the future!!
Just leave it where it is and get it out at the next service when the fuel filter is replaced, it won't do any harm. The pump intake has a fine mesh strainer on the intake that will prevent the screw (and much smaller particles) from getting drawn in.
Just out of curiosity - I take it the fuel pump removal is pretty straight forward on the hyper....its round the arse end....doesn't even look like id have to take anything off to get it out....the reason I say is that I may just pull it and do the fuel filter at the same time...
If its anything like the 916,get a spare seal before you change the filter. If you havent got a spare Sods law states that you will nick/pinch it when refitting!
The pump flange is just held in with a few nuts, it may need a new o-ring when re-fitting but probably not, but you will need to get ALL the fuel out first as it's at the bottom of the tank. It's normal to change the filter while the tank is off.
Well, current plan is to run it down to reserve - then drain it.....then syphon the last bit and then remove the pump.....hopefully the time im riding it and running it down will take the screw down to the bottom as well...
I was looking at the Oxford premium heated but not sure the difference between touring, sport and adventure. Is it just length? which ones did you get comfy and did they need trimming? I've seen some bikes where they're too short.
Well....I got all 3. Sport for the RSV, touring for the hyper and adventure for the supermoto....no difference apart from the grip pattern...I got quite a good discount as I got all 3 at the same time...
Do the touring look ok on the hyper? I had this from Oxford PREMIUM TOURING LENGTH 120MM PREMIUM ADVENTURE-LENGTH 132MM PREMIUM SPORTS-LENGTH 123MM I measured the hyper at 127mm total so don't know whether to get the adventure and trim them or get the sport slightly shorter.
